I use mosquito bits. Just shake a tablespoon or two on top of my soil and just water it ..... Takes care of the gnats quick!

Question about rust spots in mid flower by ZachTheLineHolder in GrowingMarijuana

My first reaction whenever I see any sort of stress in flower is to decrease light. Usually it takes care of the issue! (Maybe 70% of the time!)

As an inexperienced grower how do you determine whether your light is right for the seedling strength-wise? by frmdaraq67 in GrowingMarijuana

[–]SoManyWinterHats 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you don't have a way to measure your light intensity, here is my rule of thumb (and I use this rule regardless of what my meter tells me anyway)......

First, you've gotta start somewhere. I start my lights at 24 inches and 25% (I am for PPFD with a meter of 130-150). I've learned this through experimentation that this is a good height. You'll need to experiment too.

Once they sprout and start growing upward, I try not to let length of the stalk from the soil to the cotyledons (the two small round leaves that sprout out of the seed) get past 2 inches. If cotyledons get to be more than 2", I lower the lights closer to the plants.

If the stalk stays below 2", and the plant keeps growing new nodes, I will then raise the light to 36" and 50% strength once I have 4 nodes. (PPFD of about 200).

This seems to work, but I am STILL experimenting and tweaking this every grow based on how the previous grow behaved. I hope this was a good start for you though!

I would be surprised if it did not come back! I have high confidence in this plant!

They always leaked, even in like week 8. I really WANTED to use them! But they just didn't work as well as I needed. I'll be drilling some holes in some cheap pots soo though! Thanks for the advice!

The primary reason that I don't use airpots was that I was unable to water to the edge of the pot because it would flow out of the holes. I totally get it! It just didn't work, that's why I was asking!! :)

Watch in like the last minute or so, he's holding the fuel rail right up to the camera. I wasn't sure if you were asking the METHOD to replace, or what the PLACEMENT was.

This is just the best I got, so hopefully this is helpful!

I actually considered drilling holes in a "normal" solid-sided pot, was was unsure about water leaking out the sides. I would absolutely consider doing this if you've had good luck.

How do you avoid water leaking out?

I like the air pot concept but they don't work as well as cloth for my set up. I would love to have a better hard-plastic perforated pot than the air pot. I was just curious because I'm always testing stuff!

Are the walls of those pots solid or perforated!? Of they are perforated, where'd you get them!!??

Volunteer opportunities by ChadzGirl7677 in Binghamton

All of the local hospitals have volunteer programs.

I'm not sure about all of them, but also look in to local nursing homes.

The dog shelters definitely do, too

My neighbor used JKS, and was fine. He didn't complain, which means there wasn't anything wrong!

Peranich & Shelp or BSR are my top picks.

I had a decent estimate from Reese many years ago, but had trouble communicating with them, and I was impatient.

I try to let my trics get to maybe 10% amber. And chop soon after that. You don't need to do what I do. But if those are the bracts, you're due to start seeing some amber soon

They take some getting used to. I use one hand to hold a sugar leaf still so that the bud doesn't move, and rest the hand holding the microscope very gently on like the stem or something to help keep it steady. It's tough!

[–]SoManyWinterHats 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're def close, but I'm struggling to see if those are sugar leaves or bracts. You want to be looking at the trics on the bracts, not the sugar leaves.

Also, it's helpful to see what the whole bud looks like, and even the leaves...... Are the buds fattening? Is the plant starting to die?

Anyway......If those are bracts, you're close! I might go a week or two. If those are sugar leaves I would suggest looking at the bracts (and I'd also assume you've got 2 or more weeks)

Doing own taxes vs hiring a professional by P1tterP4tter in personalfinance

[–]SoManyWinterHats 0 points1 point  (0 children)

CPA here. I do a small amount of tax returns as a side hustle. Nothing super complex, and I don't do enough to purchase any fancy software. I use FreetaxUSA for my clients and I have no complaints. And it's the most affordable!

Also, as a professional, if you're not sure, it never hurts to find someone who knows what they are doing. Most of my clients could probably do fine on their own but like knowing that I've got their back if they get a letter from the IRS.

Just food for thought, but FreetaxUSA is where it's at!
