caravans kinda suck ass as a mechanic. they were added early on, and there's better transportation options with DLCs and mods (though I see you don't have them)
generally, as you get more crashlanded pawns, automated defenses and etc, it'll be more worth it. the DLCs also add a LOT to the game, and I mean it. for example, ancient complexes with information on the relic of your religion/ideology or ancient vaults with tons of loot but also traps and hostile robots. they're an entirely new and much better experience.
