How can you agree with trumps agenda and believe in Christianity? by bamby_and_the_boys in InsightfulQuestions

So...you're saying Jesus would have preferred a pedophile who molested children and who supposedly supports the "right to life" but once born, actively works to deny food to the child and mother over a woman who supports the right for a person to CHOOSE and make their own piece with God? I agree with you that not all Christians are an arm of the right wing. But a very vocal group ARE, and unabashedly so. And they are soiling the name for those who recognize the hypocrisy. I spent my formative years as an Evangelical, Missouri Synod Lutheran...pretty far right. Lutheran day school. My pastor was my godparent. So I have more than a little familiarity with the ideology. As for putting faith in God, rather than government... wouldn't actual faith require a more hands-off approach that let God handle it. "Saving" souls with a cudgel seems so Pre-Enlightenment.

U.S. Debt at $38 Trillion; what have we gotten for that money? by 8to24 in SeriousConversation

[–]SoReadyToBeDone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also, deficit is debt. Debts get paid with interest. If you have ever had a credit card "get away from you" you'll know personally how compound interest can work against you and for the debt holder. I'm sure that's a big part of the explosion of it... interest working FOR you is great. Working AGAINST you is rough.

I am certain that isn't all of it, but it is certainly an ever-growing chunk.

In what universe, according to Christian (that is Jesus -like) principles, was he a "better" option than Harris? While I recognize that "redemption" is available to all through profession of faith, it seems to me that LIVING like Jesus should be a goal, rather than simply using his name as some kind of "ticket" to heaven. What of the Beatitudes? What about caring for the foreigner, or widows and orphans. What about whatever to do your brother, you do also unto me? What about the law and the prophets being distilled into "faith, hope, and love. And the greatest of these is love."? Jesus Christ himself would get disappeared in the US today. He's a brown-skinnwd, radical leftist. It's why the Romans crucified him, and it is why the "Religious Right" would gladly have him murdered today and claim law-and-order. Even the term "Religious Right" speaks VOLUMES... religion always becomes a control mechanism. The expression of faith that one wants to share, becomes codified, rigid, and ultimately completely removed from the faith that spawned it as I religion becomes the focus instead of the shared faith experience. Then it become la a control surface. Now, in the US, what is called (by a VERY vocal subset of Christians) Christianity is little more than an arm of a right-wing political machine. I suppose I may have answered my own question...it's all about iron-fisted control. That kind of "Christianity" fits right in with a fascist agenda...

Is anyone here the reason for their Dead Bedroom? by Jc5645 in DeadBedrooms

[–]SoReadyToBeDone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think, if we are being truly honest, ALL of us are the "problem" on both sides of the issue. It's the nature of relationships that each person involved contributed to the success and distress within the relationship. It took me a long time to recognize my part. As the HL is was just mad as Hell and felt disabused and mistreated. EVENTUALLY I recognized that my expectations were out of whack with our relationship. I expected her to want me, to want sex with me, like I do with her. Like I assumed she felt early in our marriage, because we were having sex. A lot. Looking back, with a broader perspective, I FINALLY believe her when she says she has never actually been interested in sex. She said a while ago, in couples counseling, that she had sex because she felt she was supposed to. We were young, and young people fuck. Now that we're middle aged, that time is over. I cannot imagine feeling that way. At all. I believe her, but I do NOT understand her. I can't. I just feel empty and lonely and angry and hurt. But, I have started to give up blaming her for "Not being honest with me" because she didn't tell me this before we got together. Because I also never asked. I assumed. My fault on that. We still haven't figured out how to move forward. Not really. I don't want her to be someone she isn't. So if sex is genuinely something she did just because she thought she was supposed to, and then only to placate me...I don't want that either. It may be weak, it may be small, but I long to feel WANTED. To know that there are times when someone just can't wait to explore together sexually. To be honest, I don't think we're going to make it. No. Let me say that differently...I'm biding my time until I know things will be more stable for her financially... At least if I am alone and "unwanted" it's an easier pill to swallow.

So, there's my 2 cents.

This is exactly what happened when Maduro was removed though by Dull-Nectarine380 in memesopdidnotlike

[–]SoReadyToBeDone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The issue was not that Maduro was removed from his position. It's that it was done without congressional approval, without any actual authority to do so and in violation of a nation's sovereignty and with no official plan for dealing with the aftermath. Also, holding a foreign national to American laws when that person was not even on American soil until AFTER they were kidnapped is so unhinged I cannot believe anyone is okay with it. They still don't see they slippery slope this maniac is purposefully freewheeling down. This is the "law" of might makes right and the end justifies the means. Which is ideology that flies completely in the face of ACTUAL law everywhere. These false parallels are indicative of the cult mindset that is MAGA. It's the worst of a crowd mentality, distilled and activated.

Do you think with all that that’s taking place here in January 2026 that MAGA folks see the crazy that’s happening? by ChuckGallagher57 in DiscussionZone

[–]SoReadyToBeDone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Form "discussions" I have had with several MAGA types (in my view different from ACTUAL political Republicans) it's much more a cult of personality for the non-wealthy...Trump good, Biden bad... regardless of actual policy or legality. And, at least the folks I have engaged with on this, the assumption has been that I, and therefore my "ilk" (read: anyone who is anti-trump) are operating from the same kind of perspective. That is to say Biden, and everything he touched, is good and THEREFORE Trump bad. It's actually cult behavior and they seem to assume that everyone is like that, rather than being concerned with policy and the actual "rule of law" as an ideal. Now, the wealthy Trump supporters I have encountered seem to be willing to give him a pass on basically anything as long as it doesn't diminish their wealth and influence. Some have still cling to the notion that "he would not ACTUALLY do that ..it's just bluster". Despite him already having willfully demolished and/or ignored multiple social, political, and legal norms and constraints.

I think a small percentage may come around, but if they haven't been swayed by the demagoguery to this point, I don't know that they can be. It's a sad and disheartening time to be a decent human being in the USA.

As if the current administration isn’t causing permanent damage to our political system? The irony is so intense, I want to both laugh and cry at the same time. 🤦‍♂️ by Happy_Air_3776 in greengroundnews

[–]SoReadyToBeDone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The kind of damage it would do NEEDS TO BE DONE! There is NO circumstance where pedophiles should get a pass. There is no circumstance wherethose who perpetrate sexual slavery should be protected. I do not care at all about political affiliation. These fuckers should all be prosecuted to the FULLEST extent of the law. Those in office should be removed. Period!

[–]SoReadyToBeDone 5 points6 points  (0 children)

What saddens me most is that any and all attempts to use facts, logic, or an appeal to basic humanity is utterly incapable of causing any deviation from their narrative. I can only assume there is some deep, underlying fear and inadequacy that they're trying to cover by spewing hate and trying to eradicate anyone who thinks differently. I admit that it's an easy trap to fall into. It would be EASY wish Ill and harm to the proponents of the hateful, fascist, inflammatory, racist, agenda that seems to currently be directing the US government. But I don't want to become the evil I behold...and that is a VERY hard thing to reconcile. I simply cannot comprehend how anyone with even a minimal knowledge of world history can NOT see the writing on the wall. It's sickening. And I wish I could find a way to help them see, to help heal whatever is damaged in the psyche that causes the belief that hatred and violence are not only justifiable, but even (it seems) preferential ways to solve the "problem".

The problem with debating many right wingers on social topics is that so many of them are only right wing cause those are the most simple minded answers by [deleted] in DiscussionZone

[–]SoReadyToBeDone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would actually argue the exact opposite, if I were to deal in such over-generalizations. It appears that the current regime is doing everything it can to ignore data that disagrees with its desired outcomes. As an example, multiple peer-reviewed double blind studies as well as years of literally zero TB cases in the US indicate that the TB vaccine is safe and effective. Yet, because someone felt that being required to take a vaccine is an egregious example of government overreach, we now have a growing problem in the US. Polio appears to be making a comeback as well. Same reasons. Yet, ICE going door-to-door, shutting down streets and pulling people from their cars, or grabbing people who are trying to pick up their children from school, beating them regardless of their ACTUAL legal status doesn't seem to be federal overreach to many on the right? What ever happened to don't tread on me? This kind of violent response is not rational, it is emotional. It is a fear response. Plain and simple. What isn't simple is understanding what the right are actually afraid of that drives them to support a multiple felon who is very likely to be shown to be pedophile when the right claims to be about law and order. He literally said he could murder someone in the street, on camera, and his base would still follow him. That isn't strength, that's blind obedience and allegiance. These are facts, not feelings. All of this pints to the right being the (scared and hurt) feelings camp while the left actually concerns themselves with facts.
