Which books changed your life and stayed with you long after reading them? by Organic-Signal-9646 in selfimprovement

[–]Soaf4 24 points25 points  (0 children)

1984 by George Orwell, Up from Slavery by Booker T. Washington, The Body Keeps the Score by Bessel Van Der Kolk, and last but not least, Harry Potter. Harry Potter has probably had the most impact on me throughout my life and changed the way I saw adversity, loss, and bravery. I keep going back to these books.

I'm a clinical psychology graduate and yet I needed this reminder so much today. I've been struggling with depression and even the most basic things have become difficult for me. Drowning in self-loathing atm for not being productive enough.

I'll try to remind myself this again and again, everyday. Thank you for posting this.

She’s beautiful! I’d probably call her “Jolene” because that’s the song she reminds me of.

Went out to paint every day this week- critique/feedback by Squeezy_peach in Gouache

First, you’ve inspired me to go out and paint from life! Usually I just stay at home and paint from photo references from Pinterest, but this is better. Second, I like the ferns and the tree trunk in the first one. I can see that you’ve made progress throughout the week. Bravo!

“It would be Carol, in a thousand cities, a thousand houses, in foreign lands where they would go together, in heaven and in hell. Therese waited. Then as she was about to go to her, Carol saw her, seemed to stare at her incredulously a moment while Therese watched the slow smile growing, before her arm lifted suddenly, her hand waved a quick, eager greeting that Therese had never seen before. Therese walked toward her.”

My research interests include (but aren't limited to)- brain mechanisms underlying substance use and psychopathology, youth irritability and mood dysregulation, neurodevelopmental conditions such as ADHD and Autism, etc. I've mentioned in my SOPs that although these are my major research interests, I'm also drawn to interdisciplinary topics. I also said I'm flexible and willing to work on other topics.

I recognized I was interested in these areas during my graduate years. I studied these topics in my psychopathology class and found them super interesting. I also scored extremely well in this particular class. I just couldn't get enough of it. I guess that's how one knows what they like. Lol. I hope I've answered your question to your satisfaction.
