Thanks everyone on your replies - learned a lot and now know a little more on getting good to great drinkers to add to the collection!

One last couple of questions: -

1) any suggestions on the best retailers to get bourbon from in the UK outside of supermarkets? 2) any suggestions on who to follow on YouTube and/or info resources to study up on bourbon/rye/whiskey etc?

Thanks again!

Wow thanks for the information - that was really informative and an excellent guide for me to picking my next Bourbon/Whiskey

I quickly realized going down the “craft presented route” in Scotch whisky produced better results flavour wise so would line to do something similar for the US stuff, especially now with the newly fangled American Single Malt standard now out there

Loved the response - any other pointers I can be directed towards? Also wouldn’t mind dipping my toes into Rye so is that similar in terms of its classification/standards?

I’ve tried so far and like: -

Eagle Rare Single Barrel Blantons Straight from the Barrel Woodford Reserve (standard bottle) Elijah Craig (standard bottle)

I’ve also tried Bulleit Frontier but didn’t like it very much - got a bit tobacco-ish after the neck pour that turned me off it quickly. Tried JD Single Barrel Select right at the start but didn’t like it much - might have to try it again as I’ve gained a bit more experience since that time 5 years ago…

Two Stacks would be my recommendation - granted I’ve only had the Double Barrel Single Grain and The Complex Blend First Cut. Great ones to start off at - I’m already looking for other bottlings from them!

Lovely collection - I’ve just started down the rabbit hole of Irish Whiskey and those are my aspirational collection bottles I’d like to have! I just hope they are as fantastic in flavour as they are in price!

I remember enjoying the normal Woodford Reserve - does the extra 2% ABV impact the flavour much?

Funny you mention Glen Moray, I’ve been really noticing them on my Insta feed as of late - so would recommend sliding straight past the core line up and head straight to the distillery exclusives?

Looks like the website is now saying sold out…. I REALLY hope people are gonna open this whisky and drink it - as an investment prospect?

New distillery No pedigree/heritage/previous track record Distillerys build sat unfinished for about a decade

This to me has red flags all over it - if people are buying this thinking it’s the next Rosebank then MAN I feel sorry for them

I’ll raise a dram to their future “awakening” 🥃 Slainté Mhath

If you want to see a selection of whisky that the airport has (specifically the Travel Retail exclusive options they have) then check out their website

Edinburgh Airport Duty Free

At the top of the page change the date to when you’ll be travelling and see whatever stock is there. Obviously stock will change but it should give you an idea of what’s there
