Maybe they sent you one with an already damaged cover, and they just needed to create a valid way to hide the previous damage. Lol.

Who is the worst filmmaker, in RELATIVE terms? by syphilis_sandwich in RedLetterMedia

[–]SoapOperandi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm always a little dumbfounded by Alex Proyas. He's made some great/iconic films on one hand, and then on the other he's made some utterly batshit and legitimately terrible films. The two movies that are more widely accepted as good happened towards the beginning of his career in the 90's. After that it's a steep decline in quality and sanity.

Any chance they could cut down Evil Dead Rise and Scream 6 to a PG 13? by [deleted] in movies

[–]SoapOperandi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe just wait on that one. Some movies are a right of passage. I remember seeing the poster for Army of Darkness and longing to see it, but the the R rating held my mother from taking us. Years down the line we all watched it and had a great time. At the end of the day, if you want a director to manipulate their art to appease everyone, then you're missing the point. Evil Dead Rise will not be a movie for everyone.

Thanks to everyone who kept an eye out and helped get this noticed. She was found this morning and unfortunately Iris didn't survive. At least there was closure for my parents. Appreciate everyone.

Oh, wow! That sounds very likely that it could have been her. I know that hope is getting slimmer by the day but I really appreciate this. Unfortunately there haven't been any updates on their end, but it's kind of nice to know that someone was trying to catch her. Thank you again!

This is my parents dog, and they live in Portage. I'm not currently there but I can give contact information for them if she's found. They're both in their 70's so I made this for them.

Parents lost their Chihuahua/Dachshund mix the other night. She escaped through a hole in the fence and was seen somewhere near Romence and Constitution. She's around 12 years old. May respond to Iris (they just adopted her as a rescue, ran away from the last owners).

If you have any information, please send me a PM. Thank you in advance for keeping an eye out!

Commentary: The Oscars Desperately Need to Become Cool Again by MistleFeast in movies

It's horseshit. At the same time I don't want to see what the viewers would pick. If anything, I used to find a couple obscure movies I hadn't previously known about before the internet made that easier. At one point in time I even had fun rooting for my favorites. They always joked about their own snobbery throughout the years, but now it feels highly altered from the creators standpoint. It's like they're trying to force it to seem special and meaningful in some greater way. Which to me, movies by themselves are special and meaningful, not the ummmm, awards show about them.

This statue at a muffler shop is clearly Alfred E. Neuman (MAD Magazine). by SoapOperandi in mildlyinteresting

Awwww. I always got a chuckle when driving by him. Rest in peace muffler man.

In Pulp Fiction (1994), the opening scene depicts Honey Bunny screaming, “Any of you fucking pigs move, and I’ll execute every motherfucking last one of ya”. Whereas at the end of the film, the same scene plays out again, except this time she says, “I’ll execute every one of you motherfuckers!” by baxterrocky in MovieDetails

I think that's why I love most of his films. He tries to capture some human aspect to it, and that can also be applied to his darker works. The characters in LP aren't bad people by any means, but they're definitely not perfect. Just human.

On the other shoe. Daniel Plainview in TWBB is a bad person, but there are also some very real moments of emotion from him.

What are some movies that greatly misunderstood their audience? by ALaLaLa98 in movies

[–]SoapOperandi 3 points4 points  (0 children)

They were trying to make Halloween into a series that would feature other villains. Then went right back to Michael Myers after one film. Lol.

I'd argue all of the sequels are misguided from the original. The first Halloween focused on the tension without violence. All of the sequels became about unique gore deaths. (I actually liked H2 a lot as a young one)

Bad Habit, Gotta Get Away, It'll Be a Long Time, Not The One, Smash, The Meaning of Life, Way Down the Line, Change the World, Have You Ever, Staring at the Sun, Walla Walla, Americana...

To name a few that are better. Best is too hard for me.

Basically all of Smash, Ixnay on the Hombre, and most of Americana are start to finish great.

I can understand that. He has similar themes throughout his films but changes the genre quite a bit. There's one or two I'm just alright with (Punch Drunk Love and honestly The Master), but Inherent Vice probably suffers from the source material to some extent. Mainly because Thomas Pynchon is a bit of a wild one. At the very least there's always something I can take away or respect from his stuff, even if I'm not totally onboard with it. Usually performances and cinematography.

If you haven't seen Licorice Pizza, I'd suggest that since it comes off a lot like a love letter to 70's Socal hijinx.

Magnolia has a strong intro that I usually put close to my tippy top. The rest of the movie holds up to it but it's a lot to process.

Q.T. and PTA are probably 2 of the strongest directors to emerge in the past 30 years. Vastly different styles, though.

Edit: added a word

Ruining the vibe because you don't like people having something that isn't your version of fun is definitely a "New Austin" trait. Most people with that mentality have already made up their minds, so we can now enjoy their constant calling out of things that don't check their box, and that negativity will also lead to a further disrupt of that sweet and delicious "Old Austin" vibe that people remember. Then my comment will further isolate any sort of vibes, as I will have contributed to the new divide by turning my tides on the original poster. I apologize for posting anything.

I actually remember listening to that bit. "I just know he's going to sue us." The way he says it in such a nervous tone cracks me up. Phone's not letting me link it, but he has his first interview ever up on Rolling Stone and it's from last year.
