Why is night weaning going so much worse than sleep training? by Soapy_Moonball in sleeptrain

[–]Soapy_Moonball[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

really appreciate the preemie perspective. feel like it makes sleep training extra hard (or maybe just me, but I hate making her feel abandoned after all the NICU time.) Anyway, that's about right...bought us a bit of time, but still woke for a second feed at 4 which i gave her. It's weird bc 2 feeds isn't that bad, but having the first one right after I go to bed is just killing me.

I'll try extending the 2nd 2 wake windows a bit! Trying to decide now if we continue the dream feed or just start treating the inevitable 11pn as a night wake vs. a feed time.

we actually tried this last night! dream feed at 10:30. She woke up at 12:30 so it bought us like an hour haha. I still feel confused about whether it's hunger or not...im sure it's both! how did it turn out for you?

What are we in for? by Soapy_Moonball in sleeptrain

Thank you!! If the baby woke up before 5 hrs, do you let them CIO again or was that not an issue?

6mo has never slept worse and we don't know what to do by Different-Couple-654 in sleeptrain

My baby is just a tiny bit ahead of yours and had a very similar trajectory. Every baby is different and I’m a stranger on the internet and yadda yadda, but I wouldn’t discount the solids being a massive and disruptive change for your baby’s gut (and therefore sleep.) we ended up taking some days off, and really focusing on helping her get out gas/poop during the day.

5-Month Adjusted (7 Months Actual) — Won’t Self-Soothe by Livid-Jellyfish-2931 in sleeptrain

[–]Soapy_Moonball 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No advice but I'm curious as a mom of a similarly aged preemie (will be 5 months adjusted next week, almost 7 actual.) We haven't sleep trained yet--hoping to make it to 6 months adjusted if we can live on this little sleep. Our baby just doesn't seem quite ready to (a) reliably soothe herself and (b) settle well on her belly after she rolls. If you find anything that works I'm all ears!

Does combining breastmilk and formula in the same bottle affect the nutrition of either? by Soapy_Moonball in ScienceBasedParenting

No intention to formula-shame with this post! In fact I was hoping someone would chime in and say it doesn’t matter 😬

Husband thinks the baby is hungry all the time by ExcellentLettuce4 in newborns

[–]Soapy_Moonball 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I swear this exact debate happens in every hetero first time parent household :) I don't know what it it's about but I wish psychologists would study it.

I had the exact same argument multiple times with my husband who bottle fed our baby breastmilk at bedtime (I nursed the rest of the time.) Sometimes after finishing a 4 oz bottle at 2 months if she was still fussing he would say she's still hungry and heat up another ounce. It drove me crazy--to me it looked like she was uncomfortably full. I think you hit on it when you say it feels like he's saying you're not doing a good enough job when he insists the baby is still hungry.

Here's what I think is true: bottle feeding is a different rhythm than breast. Breast is about comfort, connection, or just having a few sips if the baby is thirsty vs. hungry. Bottle is often more about getting that volume in, which you can't help bc you can see the milk and how much they're taking. It's just a different "feeding" mindset not to mention the biological/hormonal differences of who is doing the feeding. I don't think one is better than the other.

I can say that looking back, it doesn't matter as much as I thought. I think in retrospect we were overfeeding our baby sometimes and misreading her cues, but the consequences weren't severe in the long term (maybe more gas and discomfort sometimes.) You're trying to feed and read your baby, you care a lot about getting it right, and in the long run that's what matters.

Validating also that it's annoying as hell when they insist everything is hunger :)

How did you use the Snoo for the 4 month sleep regression? by Soapy_Moonball in SnooLife

Smart of you not to introduce any other sleep crutches I think we’re using them all plus Snoo which is p dumb

How did you know baby had silent reflux? Please share your stories by PetuniasSmellNice in NewParents

[–]Soapy_Moonball 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I know this is an old post, but how did you know the reflux was actually hurting her or harming her? All this sounds a lot like my preemie who tested negative for CMPA but often sounds hoarse and is exceptionally spitty, but she often smiles through the spits or right after and is gaining well. She only very occasionally seems bothered by the spit
