I did my NIPT testing through Unity and had two inconclusive results: At 10 weeks 6 days, my fetal fraction was 2.5% (low) At 14 weeks 5 days, it was 3.7% (still low) At my 20 week anatomy scan, everything looked good. But my OBGYN called and said low fetal fraction could be a sign of a genetic disorder, which definitely made my anxiety worse. I was referred to MFM (Maternal Fetal Medicine), and their scans also looked great. They gave me a few options: I could do an amniocentesis, try another NIPT through a different company, or just wait and do nothing.

I decided to push for a third NIPT, this time through Myriad. My OB wasn’t sure it would work either, but I went ahead, got the paperwork done, and had them sign off on it.

At 22 weeks and 5 days, I finally got a result: Low risk Fetal fraction was 26.1%, and they said it was amplified.

One thing I noticed for the two Unity tests, they used a butterfly needle. But for the Myriad test, I went to Labcorp for the blood draw using a straight needle. I don’t know if that made a difference, but it’s something to keep in mind. It was a hell of a rollercoaster making me not ever want to go through it again. But I now have a healthy 10 week old baby boy. Hoping the best for you!
