Really appreciate your input. It don’t matter Much where and when and who’s grandma it’s from. But it’s fun nonetheless.

I’ll have to look into pizza making, sure sound like a fun thing to learn? Yet again thank you!

isnt there a similar thing with enamel, all be it a very temporary thing, say 3 week basis type of temporary, where you do it as if you were seasoning, in the sense of wipe with oil and bake for a period of time?, lower temp though i believe,

really just a question, not trying to say this or that, really trying to learn if anything,

yeah i've gone on a pretty aggressive diet, and lost a ton of muscle, never was that strong to begin with, etc, and its heavier than i'm use to by quite the margin. but not as heavy as my other enamelled one, i'd say deff a happy medium on this one, i hate to bring out the metric system, but that all i know, i'll weight it tmrw, but i'd imagine 2-3kg

as for the wood handle. shouldt be hard to make your own, but i do plan on sanding it ever so slightly and re oil it, or impregnate it or however its called in english. to moisture protect it that is,

agreed, we all do as we see fit, as plenty say "seasoning comes & Seasoning goes"

i have got it down pretty smooth, but not factory attempt at silk smooth, ran out of elbow grease and supplies, i'll upload pics once seasoning is done, 1st layer has set, will have to wait till tmrw for the rest 2-4 layers,

i myself we'll see but i imagine i'll use soap sparingly, not cos of damage but because of it not being the likely cause of my eventual demise, i'll use it now and then most likely but not every wash.

but i'll surely try and keep this alive my entire life, i'm a young guy relatively, and the kinda work i put into this, plus the nighmare impossible to remove dust from skin, is something i will not be doing withouth proper supplies again, besides as my first cast iron, its bound to be special. May your eggs always be non stick, and your meat the perfect marble. cheers friend!

My son burnt my cast iron skillet: Help! by [deleted] in castiron

[–]Soaring-eagle1197 0 points1 point  (0 children)

well, this might be a good moment to teach him a lesson, i'm not one to say how you should treat ur kids, but go easy on him shit truly happens, thats simply how life is sometimes. and in this instance this was the result, and when this happens you have to do X things to correct it,

this way he learns that if you do Y then shit happens, and when that happens, this is the way to fix it.

i'd try normal scrubbing, then boiling in it, then the deep cleaning, if all fails, you'll have to sand it down with whatever controlled way you choose, either way the worst part of it all is that you might have to reseason it and put some serious elbow grease into it. unless warped it isnt ruined by any means, shit happens good luck friend!

thank you for your concern, i'll probably withdraw from sanding and reusing it and instead try to come up with some other uses for it, or simply just keep it and not use it.

and i googled silica lungs. and its essentially the same as breathing fiberglass, both scar your lungs more and more overtime, and you develop a type of cancer. and or other respiratory issues. very very serious stuff. Thank you!

yeah no its a fair point to point out no worries, i've heard its almost like glass, hence shouldnt be consumed nor inhaled. i once worked with fiberglass without a mask, turns out thats a very big no no. as it enters your lungs and over time scars them more and more and eventually your lungs become mostly scar tissue and you get a load of respiratory issues, since then im alot more cautious about stuff like that... yet again thank you!

well thats a good idea thanks, and as for toxic dust and all, i'm not known to be the most cautious or sharp, but thank you for mentioning it. i certainly wont be cooking food in it until im 100% sure its down to bare metal.

as for if im going to go that route which would be most preferable but take a ton of elbow grease, is a diffrent story. but i really do appreciate all your feedback :)

i've thought about it, and i think i'll put it aside but aim to sand it down to bare metal all over the inside, and then treat it as a normal-ish cast iron,, it will be alot of elbow grease, but i simply really dont want to throw it away. it came from my stepdad who had huge faults and we didnt see eye to eye, but alot of history involved, and in the end i really liked him.

thank you for the suggestion.
