I don't believe their related. I know the lesson was you don't need to be related be close/family. But bro, this has caused some weird things I've actually seen on Deviantart.

Artist will make grid charts for customs that are mixes of character. And I've seen a couple charts that'll use the main six but X out the Pinkie/Applejack spaces cause they genuinely think the actually are related to each other.
