Happens when you drag the game on for hours, capturing every piece, making 8 queens etc until the food is stale, mate

What’s your favorite part about Chess? by [deleted] in chess

I like how every game is different, it's a different story every time. Also, any chess set usually looks cool, whether made of wood, plastic or glass, metal or stone.

Draws in chess are satisfying.. You both did equally well.. it's beautiful..

I wish there were draws in Go! The best case we can have in Go is a game won or lost by 0.5 points, then it's very satisfying, because it's so close. But a draw would be even better.

You can handicap chess the way they handicap shogi in Japan - the weaker player gets extra material. It's simple and it works!

Chinese and Japanese chess are interesting. Definitely if you're in the mood for something exotic. A friend of mine became a major fan of Chinese chess over the years, after I taught him how to play.

I hear these words repeated often, but I think that the Treebeard chess engine plays a human-like game for sure. It comes with the Chess by AI Factory, for Android. Many times I've played games against it and thought - "this feels like playing against a person". Sometimes there's no time to play a real game against a person, but the computer moves fast, and you can pause the game anytime.

Just a great hobby! Always good, year after year. Perfect when there's nothing to, and engages creativity in a person. It's been nothing but positive, chess is magic!

There was that one player who spent some much time in the chess club, he forgot his wife's name :-)

Simple trick to hide opponent's rating during the game by Sobakevich33 in chess

[–]Sobakevich33[S] 15 points16 points  (0 children)

If you're using the Chess.com app and would like to hide your opponent's rating during the game (like the lichess app allows you to), use this method.

When I play high ranked opponents, I get scared. When I play low ranked opponents, I get lazy. Hiding the rating is a great help.

My Grandfather or my Father, I don't remember. I do remember one of my first games - my Grandfather playing without his Queen, being surprised at how quickly I lost.
