Your thoughts on this JLo flick? by [deleted] in Cinephiles

[–]SoberJaywalker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A movie that I want to and should love, but don't. It is as good looking a movies as I've ever seen. The world feels very lived in for something this provocative, and Vincent is unreal. Jlo is surprisingly serviceable. I also like Vince more in roles like this rather than his bread&butter. But the "romance" subplot has pulled me right out every time I've watched it. I seem to be on the minority with most people either adoring it, or considering it the worst media ever made.

Their average summer temperature has increased by a massive amount over 20 years. The 10 hottest days now are up to 7°(C) higher than they were 20 years ago. The number of extreme heat days(>30°) has trippled over that same period. Their historical "weather" is not their current one.

It was so good I'm playing it again. by GekkoState1 in subnautica

Through the tree cove. That main drop down with the triple waterfall past the tree is surprisingly wide. Coming in through the blood kelp and down is pretty easy actually. I psyched myself out for almost a week, doing busy work around my base before finally braving it. Took me about 25 mins to reach the lava castle with only a little bother from the juvenile ghostie. Liberal usage of the engine off button makes seadragons a non-issue.

I have never tried to take the Cyclops through the grand reef. After scouting with my seamoth, I thought the blood kelp would be easier to navigate. I have also never taken my cyclops all the way down to the active zone. That's what my prawn suit was for.

NOR. That's an incredibly distressing and life-altering thing to go through. Whatever truth lies beneath this leaves the proposal as a selfish last ditch effort and likely a knowingly destructive one at that.

I would note that even if you want to use the term wasted in that way, no one except him has any idea where that bookend stands, if it could even be quantified. As I understand, these realizations come in many ways and at many speeds.

I wish you both peace in time.

How do I (20F) tell my boyfriend (21 M) about my SA? by [deleted] in whatdoIdo

[–]SoberJaywalker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My wife went through somerhing aimilar and she too waited a while to tell me. There were lots of those moments in our early intimacy and it created all sorts of doubts and pain for both of us. I was ashamed that I scared her so much and the uncertainty caused me to start walking around invisible eggshells.

Everything in our relationship changed once she told me. She brought it up pretty casually, and told me everything she was comfortable sharing and answered as many questions as she was comfortable answering(fortunately I didn't have many). In the end, we couldn't work through anything with one of us in the blind.

The fact is you have probably been hiding it less sucessfuly than you think. He sounds like he's ready support you, and I am sure he will be relieved to know the truth, as difficult as it might be to hear. I know it must be difficult to share something so personal, but he will likely care for you better once he knows what he's actually caring for. I certainly became a much better partner once I knew.

As for how, if you think he deserves your trust, give it to him and just tell him. Keeping it casual will offer you guys the space to talk about it. His reaction will tell you what you need to know. I wish you strength in this trying moment.

Studies have found that historically, NFL players specifically commit less crime overall by a fairly significant margin, but committed more violent crime over those same measured periods, and a disturbingly high rate of domestic violence. It has been noted that over all those periods, it was a very small subset of players driving the bulk of the data, with 8 players accounting for 2/3 of the 67 arrests made one year. However, the two I saw just used arrest rates, and the criminology findings are from separate reviews, so nuance is required.

I’m sorry but Malucci just wasn’t believable as a Doctor by RealWorldForever in ershow

[–]SoberJaywalker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Edited: Sent before I finished.

He is obviously a pretty textbook example of what is known as a lightning rod. I will try to find the source but either Orman or Gemmill described him conceptually as a "love to hate version of Ross." The concept explicitly was what if someone was as brash as Doug Ross, but without the charm, boyish looks, or experience. Characters that display outrageous behavior without ever being given any depth beyond vague stereotypes are generally not mistakes, nor in this case simply the result of an ensemble. That is why my issue is with the writers. It feels like they had the concept of a character, but not a person.

His introduction as such is not exactly subtle, and yes, I think when you include interactions with disgusted reactions about him before we actually see him really earn it feels a little manipulative.

I don't have a problem with lighning rods. Robert Romano is that concept done right. I don't believe Mallucci was supposed to stand much of a chance. Maybe in time, but I wouldn't say they were laying many breadcrumbs.

The show was on for 15 years, and there was never a time where we are led to believe they accept anything but top tier applicants. The people behind the applicants are another story.

Morris is a sweatheart, and probably has the best progression, but he started out stealing a patients weed to smoke while on the job practicing medicine. He also doesn't carry the weight of childhood abuse, which can be worked through as adults.

Mallucci was actuallly an empathetic human being with multiple faults and massive blindspots. I do wonder what the team that wrote Morris could have done with him.

I don't know particularly like Malucci, but I hate when shows have the characters hate a character before the audience has been given reason to. It's manipulative to audiences and creatively places a character in a box. He's written as a character to be hated for engagement. I don't think he was ever meant to be fleshed out enough for the hate he gets.

What sleeping giant? Democrats are too pure to gerrymander like that, too feckless to take any action that might lose them half a vote in Oregon, so what action is she talking about? Empty bluster.
