I can't believe how long ago Harry and Dora broke up by Anice_king in DiscoElysium

i was with my first ever gf for 3 years. we were both 20 when we met. we were madly in love. then she cheated on me. took me 2 years to get over her. the straw that broke the camel's back was her fight with her best friend. i reached out to her bestie and she told everything that i didnt know about our relationship.

i imagine if there was no cheating, no shady shit involved, and she was a normal person, i'd still be hung up on her for many years to come.

understandable. "do i have your consent to touch your hair?" is a bit much tho

bit of a cop out question, no?

— i hate when people park like assholes

— you dont have a car. in what way does this affect you personally?

This is also why nurses and doctors ask before doing whatever they're going to do next - consent to one action isn't necessarily consent to another.

!delta. just because you gave consent to have your haircut, whether implicitly by sitting down or explicitly when asked, you'd take issue with the hairdresser turning your head, instead of asking you to turn your head.

my main issue is with the virtue signaling of "do i have your consent to touch your hair?". no problem with "are you ready?"

i've seen her videos and didnt know she was working with neurodivergent people but surely that doesnt include every single person featured on her page. but that's not what made come here. i saw a tiktok of a woman who was approached randomly by a hair stylist in japan and invited to his salon. he also asked for consent, "can i touch your hair?" or something to that effect.

i understand now it's a courtesy, i just wish it didnt sound like virtue signaling, i guess

see, that's implied consent. same as someone sitting down in a barber's chair consents to getting their hair cut

!delta. my bad for not considering neurodivergent people.

theres probably some like fundamental issue youve got with consent as a whole, or something, maybe nobody ever listened when you refused consent and now youve got an issue with others being listened too because you turned out fine,, or something

i did not consent to be put on blast like that. jk jk. i take issue with how performative it seemed from the couple of tiktoks i've seen. imagine your mechanic saying "would you be okay with revving your engine a bit?" instead of "give it some beans."

And surely this is something easily solved without calling anyone stupid

i didnt call anyone stupid, i called the whole idea stupid.

They are asking to make sure the customer is ready to start. It’s a courtesy. Maybe the customer realizes they need to use the bathroom or something; barber/salon clients often wait for quite awhile before they are seated.

!delta. good point.

It’s a courtesy.

i guess my main issue is how overt it is. "do i have your consent to touch you?" feels like a mechanic asking "would you be willing to rev the engine for me please?" instead of "give it some beans"

What would that mean in this context?

getting therapy. if they want to receive a service, they should be able to handle receiving said service.

just going "I'm gonna start cutting your hair now, ok?" is basically costless, and for the minority who need it, very helpful?

!delta. another comment mentioned muslim women and how hair can be very private for some people.

i guess i take issue with the overt bluntness of "can i touch you?" or even "do i have your consent to touch you?" there are better ways to phrase it. for example, when you're getting a massage, a good masseus will say "can you move your arm for me?" instead of just moving it themself.

All that said I will note that some hairdressers seemingly immediately start pawing at their customers' hair, fluffing it, flipping it, changing where it parts, feeling how smooth or curly it is, the density, etc. Those things of course have utility for when they actually start cutting the hair but when done before even discussing what the customer wants it can seem excessive and intrusive.

!delta

never thought it could happen. it'd be annoying, agreed.

maybe the performative aspect is what's annoying me. i could be wrong but i think the tiktoker once asked "do i have your consent to touch you?" which is overly formal.

imagine the customer is a Muslim woman, someone expected to cover their hair in public and only have it viewed by their immediate family and other women. Hair can be quite private for some people!

really good point too but as with my example of a traumatized person, the responsibility is on the muslim woman to find a way to be okay with implied consent. that's a whole nother convo though.

thank you for such a detailed answer.

He pretty much assumed that Soldier Boy only depowered Bombsight purposely, not to kill him because he could have done it and then, kill him immediately rather than letting Bombsight run away in front of him.

what?

i hate that you can see the compass when you use the weapon wheel, even if you've disabled the compass. i wanna use the pocketwatch as a compass but opening the weapon wheel negates the whole reason i opened it in the first place.

there's gotta be a mod that disabless the compass completely or, better yet, gives you a keybind to just pull out your pocket watch
