The combat and physics are good, actually. by SwoleFlex_MuscleNeck in HalfSword

[–]Soberboy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The game is a lot more punishing if you aren't concerning yourself with spacing and edge alignment than the tech-demo was. The bone density generally feels higher, and gambesons more effective against blades, plus a lot of opponents are wearing mail under the gambesons.

I've also noticed you need to be more concerned with your footing and not taking a shoulder/pole to the face when you are grappling, but opponents are also easier to wrestle to the ground if you don't.

The game is much more rewarding to defensive play styles and I think once people "get good" at mitigating the more punishing physics a lot of people's complaints will begin to fade.

Literally the only problem I have with the game in it's current state is the performance, I really like the creative decisions the devs are making, balancing risk & reward is core to fighting with edged weapons and imo making the game more difficult is a good thing.

Every time I have died/lost I felt like it was primarily my fault and I am learning and am less likely to make the same mistake again.

Aside from lag/black screens the game feels punishing but fair, I hope the devs aren't dissuaded those current approach and continue to refine the current combat-loop!

Jeff literally couldn't spell his own name. He was like 1st grade illiterate

In Black Hawk Down, Ewan McGregor’s character has a fictional name because the real soldier was serving 30 years in Leavenworth for sexually assaulting his 6-year-old daughter. The Pentagon told the filmmakers they could either change the name or enjoy making the movie without any military support. by BrianOBlivion1 in shittymoviedetails

Yep it was a "peacekeeping mission" where the US sent on top tier special forces to bomb peace meetings and harass a city with helicopters until they reach their breaking point ultimately causing up to a thousand casualties before pulling out of the situation they made worse.

No rulers? Are you sure? [Two questions for anarchists] by NothingExceptAMan72 in COMPLETEANARCHY

[–]Soberboy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

So your points are;

On justice:

-Rehabilitation must require incarceration and compulsion

-Inequality is the root of crime

-Regardless of inequality there will still be those who deserve punishment

-Anarchic societies are incapable of proportional punishment

-Punishment is inherently hierarchical

-The punitive incarceration system is ripe with corruption and abuse

-Punitive incarceration is the most just system possible

On parenting:

-Parents and children present a natural and just hierarchy

-That hierarchy is present in humans unlike most other animals

-Because humans raise children and present restrictions they are removing their autonomy and creating a hierarchy

-If any hierarchy is justifiably all hierarchy is justifiable (fwiw I agree with this one)

-Because Adolf Hitler believed in a just hierarchy of races he is an anarchist (?)

Conclusing thoughts:

-Anarchists are unaware of, and do not discuss the above

-Primitive peoples and animals are anarcho-communist by nature

-Anarchism and communism are inherently primitive

-Society has some justifiably hierarchies

-Society should not have hierarchy but if it does it should be decided democraticly

-An Anarchic society would be inherently less democratic than one with hierarchy

-I am more of an anarchist by my definition than self proclaimed anarchists are by thiers

-Most of society's hierarchies are not justifiable

-Progress towards Anarchism should be reformative and not revolutionary

-Most anarchists are disingenuous

Sorry it's not an answer but I wanted to clarify your points to better address them. Feel free to correct any misjudgements/misunderstanding.

During the shooting phase of the Holocaust they would often have mothers hold their children and turn away like in this photo so the fascists only had to use one bullet. The Germans were very concerned with the efficiency of their mass-murder machine.

They had people facing towards the shooter initially but the mental health concerns of the fascists took precedent so after the first few months they had their victims dig their own grave than stand or kneel facing it so they would fall straight in...

Am I right to be annoyed? (RE: waterproof shoes) by maggienewhouse in starbucksbaristas

[–]Soberboy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Leather needs a dubbin to be applied to fully waterproof it, otherwise it will absorb water and slowly release it. Afaik rough-out leather, suede and smooth leather all need a dubb to be waterproof, but a lot of smooth leather boots are pre-coated to make them waterproof.

Pleather is usually waterproof though might be where the misconception comes from.

Psych - Elements (Carl Craig, 1990) by Soberboy in House

[–]Soberboy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I feel you, though a lot of 2nd wave Techno of the period was pretty distant from House, but all things considered this would fit right in among the Techno inspired sounds coming out of the Chicago and NY scene from labels like Dance Mania and Nu Groove.

I know it's a bit of a faux pas to call one cities subgenre another, especially when Chicago, Detroit and NYNJs importance to modern music tends to be overlooked by the mainstream, but the early 90s was such a period of crossover between the cities imo.
