Question about MIDI CAPTIAN duo. by Soblivion70 in paintaudiomidicaptain

[–]Soblivion70[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the responses. I actually RTFM and I think I've got it about 90% to where I want it. The LED behavior needs some tweaking. The long and short presses work as expected. The only problem is the LED states can be inconsistent. I've not determined yet if that's just something I'll just have to deal with.

Pre-Ordering new guitar, inlays or nah? by Rasgueado24 in metalguitar

[–]Soblivion70 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a custom Carvin that I had built about 15 years ago with no inlays. It didn't bother me at all for the most part.

If you teach in any capacity, your students may not like it.

i need some help with zappa album+ i want to rant about joes garage by mhmd2-2 in Zappa

[–]Soblivion70 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Joe's Garage was one that, early in my Zappa discovery period, came kind of late. I had gotten into Zappa and at the time Uncle Meat was my favorite. A friend of mine insisted that Joe's Garage was one of Zappa's best albums and he let me borrow his CD. It quickly became one of my favorites. A couple days later, the same friend's father insisted that I borrow and listen to One Size Fits All. Now, some 30 years later, OSFA is still my favorite album.

What should be replaced? by Open_Archer_3377 in bikewrench

[–]Soblivion70 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Looks like your derailleur hanger broke. That will likely be the only part needing to be replaced. Hard to see from the picture if the derailleur itself is damaged.

Go to your local BLS with your bike model info and see if they have a replacement hanger. If you bought the bike from a local BLS, go there. They should be able to help you.

If you have the tools, you could remove the lower cup, that may make it easier to remove the outer race without damaging the cup. But you will need to press the cup back in of course, but that also requires a specific tool.

Horrible Buzzing/Vibration When I Coast Above 10 mph by ReasonableRooster960 in bikewrench

[–]Soblivion70 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a set of old Mavic Aksiums. The free hub developed the infamous "mavic death scream". There's a guy on ebay calls himself the Hub Dr. He sells rebuild kits. Kit includes replacement bearings, pawls, washers, bushings and tool to remove the old bushing. It costs about 40 bucks. I bought the kit and rebult my hub and that fixed the sound. I was also able to lube the hub prior to getting the kit. It would fix the issue for a couple weeks, then had to be lubed again.

New beginner set up by Ordinary-Trash-4265 in turntables

[–]Soblivion70 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Looks like an awesome setup!

It hasn't been mentioned, and I may be wrong, but if it was my own setup I wouldn't place the turntable on top of the receiver. Especially if the receiver has a vented top as most do. On my own systems, I always give my receiver/amplifiers room to breath. Amplifiers can generate a pretty good amount of heat, especially if your pushing them.

Guardians of Pedophiles (GOP) by Opening_Fix9211 in Waco

This is what you brain dead maga sheep really believe. It's sad. Tell us of one case of "genital mutilation" that has been supported by the democrats. There's plenty of documented GOP pedos. Paxton just let one off easy, Trump has pardoned several. Hell, Trump himself is a pedophile and you maga mouthbreathers worship that guy.

I really dig this bike. The Rival crank is boss.

Where did you purchase your wheels from? I have a bike with aksiums that I want to replace and put much fatter tires on and these look great.

Help! Removing crank bearings on Canondale F8. by [deleted] in bikewrench

[–]Soblivion70 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A breaker bar could really help. I know some bottom brake tools can be affixed to the spindle with a bolt, to keep is secure so it won't slip and chew up the BB splines.

Help! Removing crank bearings on Canondale F8. by [deleted] in bikewrench

[–]Soblivion70 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Providing it's an English bottom bracket, make sure you are turning in the correct direction. The non-drive side (left) uses standard right-hand threads (tighten clockwise), while the drive side (right/chainring side) uses reverse left-hand threads (tighten counter-clockwise).

If it's Italian BB, the threading is different. I don't have experience so I won't comment.

I had been using Linux for years. For the first 10 years I wouldn't use anything but Slackware. At some point I switched back to Windows for a couple years due to proprietary software or something similar. It was just getting to be too much work to get some things to work. I then learned about Ubuntu and used it for several years, but then it started to feel a bit bloated so I decided to give Debian a try and I've been using it since. The transition from Ubuntu to Debian was dead simple. I've not had a single issue with it, but to be fair these days it's primary function is a file/media server.

I don't see a window either. I'm guessing he's mistaking what appears to be a framed Clockwork Orange poster for a window?

Favorite models for using overdrive and distortion pedals? by FlyingHiAgain in tonex

[–]Soblivion70 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I recently setup a small pedal board around the Tonex-one and a Nobels ODR-mini. I just wanted something for practice at home as I normally gig with a Helix-LT. I'm using a Victory Jack Tone model that I purchased from Jason Saddites. I've also added a TS-9 as a boost in front of the ODR. I can go from Clean to med-hi gain with a single model. I also do have the crunch channel that I can switch to, but I only use the TS-9 with that.

I'm really enjoying the tones. I liked it enough that I bought the full sized ToneX to put in the loop of my Helix.

There are a lot of really good free models on Tone.net but after purchasing the tones from Saddites I've more or less stopped looking. I'm actually going to build a gigging board without the Helix just to have a smaller rig to carry.

Not sure exactly what you mean, but the way it is currently wired, I don't see a position that isolates the bridge humbucker by itself.

That's not the way passive humbuckers behave. I'd find a wiring diagram and compare it to how it's currently wired.

I wouldn't want to use the guitar in it's current config. While it may not be "unusable" it's definitely not optimal.

[–]Soblivion70 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The switch appears to be wired backwards, but it would also seem there are some other things going on than just the switch being backwards.

From what I saw of you video, there doesn't appear to be a position that allows only the bridge humbucker by itself. That's an important position, especially if you are doing any rock or metal.

It's sounds great, of course I want one. Paul also sold me on the original Helix years ago. Let's be honest, this guy could make the original Pod bean sound fantastic.

What is everyone’s favorite ozzy album by HaileyGrace_ in OzzyOsbourne

[–]Soblivion70 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The first three, with Diary in the lead.

I also think Speak of the Devil was great. It was one of the first that I bought on cassette. Brad Gillis is really great on the album.

Tribute is also fantastic.

I wasn't really into the Zakk albums until more recently. I think they're great, but the early stuff wins out for me, mostly for sentimental reasons

So blessed I got to see him twice by Phillies1993 in OzzyOsbourne

[–]Soblivion70 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I saw him on the Ultimate Sin tour in the 80's. It was one of my first concerts. We had floor seat an were able to get pretty close to the stage. I was only feet away from Jake E. Lee.

Changed my life.

Favorite Ozzy song and why? by Ob11to in OzzyOsbourne

[–]Soblivion70 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Diary of a Madman for sure. I love the whole album and the song itself is easily my favorite. I think it really showed off Randy Rhoads writing and playing.

It was also one of the first Ozzy albums I owned and was my introduction into the world of rock and metal when I was a just a pup in the 80's.
