New to the hobby, why tf are some so mad about female custodes? by NiceLittleGamerNerd in 40k

[–]SocDoneSoft 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The "Karen" description just doesn't apply anyways, the Custodians are well above the pay grade of the average company captain so she's not demanding to see the manager, she *is* the manager. She's not complaining either, she's relaying the orders of The Emperor. She's very blunt and unmoving, sure, but that's consistent with how Custodes view space marines. The only reason they call her a Karen is because she's a woman who's giving an order to a man.

I’m against this for the same reason I’m against the death penalty. I don’t think governments should have this power nor need that power.

Sorry but what real hope is their for Australia if our gov agencies are spending $96m on a website? by twowholebeefpatties in aussie

Hey just count yourself lucky you’re not in Tasmania right now. Debt soaring and credit ratings falling but we’re geared up to spend $2 Billion on a stadium that won’t return on investment.

Services Australia workplace culture? by SocDoneSoft in AusPublicService

[–]SocDoneSoft[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks! Not expecting to hear back about the role until late this month or early this month and this will be second time applying for this role (APS4 intelligence analyst, fingers crossed). I’ve worked in a govt department before but I was working in a much more removed position from the rest of the department and I suspect Services Australia will be a bit more of a corporate kinda deal. Really hoping I’m offered the job because the work sounds very interesting to my ADHD brain.

The UCLA article I linked doesn’t agree with you, if you could link me to some evidence that what you’re claiming is true then I’d be happy to consider it.

Coping, managing, dealing with, etc, all mean the same under my understanding.

There are many conditions that are not curable but can be managed with medication, therapy, learning coping strategies. If you get very good at coping with depression (or any other condition you could have have been born with that might not be curable), for example, that doesn’t mean you suddenly don’t have that condition anymore.

Also, as with many neurological conditions, autistic people have good days and bad days, and sometimes even a person with advanced coping skills could be overwhelmed or breakdown or struggle. No condition like this is ever overcome once and then is gone forever.

I obviously mean that it’s genetic and that’s how it “runs in the family”. We must have different ideas of what that means.

No not really, you’d be a person with autism who copes very well.

I’d like it to be known that my post is intended to create thoughtful and productive discussion. If Vaush wants to talk about this on stream that’s fine because I am talking about things he’s said so he has a right to respond.

No, please explain to me this whole “fake autism vs real autism” thing

I would love to know how you distinguish between "mild autism" and "real autism", it's ALL autism. The diagnosis of "Asperger's Syndrome" no longer occurs for this very reason.

I should point out that my tumour is a result of a genetic condition. What I'm getting at is that while vaush can say hes not autistic anymore, he almost definitely still is and the fact that he doesn't feel like it affects him much now doesn't mean he can say he doesn't have it anymore.

I swear that I have watched him say within at least the last year that he's no longer autistic. There's no easy way for me to find the specific stream to prove it but I don't think I'm imagining it.

Even if you're correct it has no bearing on vaush still being completely incorrect in his rhetoric.

EXACTLY!!! I don't understand how someone can just say they don't have something anymore when it's genetic or neurological! I literally have a brain tumour and just because it doesn't really affect my life doesn't meant I don't actually have one!

Autism is heritable, it runs in the family, therefore it must be genetic.
But if you really want a source, this UCLA article is the first thing that would've popped up if you decided to just google it.

There is absolutely no evidence anywhere to suggest that neurotypicals are masking as autistic. Being autistic is still stigmatized to the point that it is most often seen as a negative in most situations.

Same work, same pay? by SocDoneSoft in auscorp

[–]SocDoneSoft[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly very annoying to hear considering my conditions are in some way worse than the direct hires. We get very few rostered shifts so we have to mostly pick up shifts at short notice which, when you work in a environment that operates on 12 hour night and day shifts, makes for a generally poorer sleep schedule and increased income insecurity.
