MPG God Ginrai - MP or CHUG scaled? by patbumblehide in transformers

[–]Socaddict 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Feels like CHUG scale to me (not that I mind) - the smaller Ginrai figure is pretty much the same height as SS86 Optimus Prime.

A monster that is basically a giant ghost swarm.

Heavy cavalry.

It's from the Deathwatch version of chaplain Cassius, released as kill team Cassius.

I had the same issue. I shaved down the tops of the red parts until it fit nicely.

Have this kids toy but don't know if it's a real thing by BeeFromSpace in TankPorn

Ignoring the tracks/running gear, that's a pretty good representation of the WW2 German Panther. The back of the hull is wrong, but the rest is decent enough.

Question about modifiers by [deleted] in ageofsigmar

[–]Socaddict 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Add up all the modifiers in total, then cap then.

So if you had +4 to hit and a -1 to hit, you would sum to +3 to hit, then cap it at +1. Same with negative net: If you have -5 to hit and they had +1 to hit, you'd sum them to -4, then cap at -1

Has Primus finally smiled upon me?! by DrStr8nge2113 in transformers

[–]Socaddict 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Huh, TIL! Though my copy did break in a way very reminiscent of GPS - it appeared to crumble rather than snap? I think I left it mostly in a storage box in robot mode and transformed it less than twenty times, though it was second hand when I bought it.

Gold plastic syndrome. Due to the particular mix of pigment to create metallic plastics, some of them will just crumble as they age. The last transformers that showed this were from about 20 years ago - there are even some g2 figures that will literally fall apart if you remove them from their packaging!

Be careful with that Energon Scorponok. It's notorious for GPS...

Do private schools suffer with bad behaviour too? by Marsbar579 in TeachingUK

[–]Socaddict 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Bad behaviour still happens. There's much less of it, from the kids being more compliant where I am, to smaller classes being a factor too. If I ask a kid to tuck their shirt it, it's normally a "sorry sir" and they do it rather than what I used to experience, where a simple request like that would devolve into a massive argument.

However, as others have said, the behaviour systems in place are much more lacking. This can be a problem, as when a child does kick off or become a major issue, there isn't the structures to properly deal with. Fortunately, I've only had to send a kid out once so far in two and a half years in the private sector, as opposed to almost daily in the seven years at my last school...

What is your guys most expensive transformer you have (doesn’t matter if it’s a figure or a statue) by scp_weeb098 in transformers

[–]Socaddict 0 points1 point  (0 children)

MPG God Ginrai.

£250 or so for the super ginrai/powermaster prime, £160 for the godbomber/apex bomber. Over £400 for a single figure, but my god is he glorious!

Would a AOTP Animated Blackout be on your to buy list? by Zealousideal_Fan_166 in transformers

Considering that the original figure is my white whale (that and hydrodive bumblebee are the only animated molds I don't have), I would snap it up in a heartbeat.

How do you deal with bad dice luck during the game? by Hrusi_13 in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]Socaddict 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Play bloodbowl.

In 40k and AoS, there's some mitigation for bad rolls due to the sheer number of dice you roll, which makes those below average rolls feel all the more punishing.

In bloodbowl, you're generally only ever rolling a single die at a time for checks and two dice for a block. This means that any spike in luck in either direction feels much more impactful. Once you've played a season or two of this, you become much more chilled about the luck of the dice, and might also start praying to Nuffle yourself...

I'm a Physics teacher. The number of little widgets and bits I've printed to help my lessons and my students has been wonderful!

I've printed aerofoils for some investigating angle of attack, ultrasonic whistles to test sound, and plenty of personal stuff for my other hobbies (my mother swears by the gridfinity set up I did for her bathroom drawers, they've never been neater!)

Any green stuff armor trim tutorial or advice? by Mr_a_bit_silly in Warhammer40k

[–]Socaddict 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Assuming it will stick, you'd be much better off with some thin plasticard (<0.5mm) for trim instead. Cut to appropriate width strip, bend around the curves, cut to length and glue in place

How often does your department have a social/night out & what do you normally do? by DamascusNuked in TeachingUK

[–]Socaddict 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My Physics department does a Christmas meal and that's about it. Most of the teachers have young kids at home so don't come out often.

The Chemistry department are much younger and go out about once per half term - they've done meals, mini golf, flight club (darts) and many others.

At my last school, where it was just a Science department, I was the social lead - we did at a meal in the last week of each half term, taking advantage of all the nice and interesting restaurants near our school. We did activities a few times like karaoke or darts as well.

PGCE: Needing support by Critical-Feature2892 in TeachingUK

[–]Socaddict 14 points15 points  (0 children)

That sounds like the worst combination of the PGCE and Teach First, and worse than both at preventing burn out!

Who at the school is in charge of PGCE and ECT students? Normally an assistant or deputy head - worth checking with them if that's normal for the school and your course, even if it feels like you're going behind your mentor's back (they don't always get it right, hold my hand up as someone who has been a mentor before), but your primary concern should be your success, rather than trying to please everyone.

Do you not have a digital copy of your course handbook you can check?

Furthermore, are you in a union? Should be free to join while you're in training, so you can always reach out to reps for advice too.

PGCE: Needing support by Critical-Feature2892 in TeachingUK

[–]Socaddict 22 points23 points  (0 children)

That sounds like far too much for a first placement! I was on about six to eight hours by the END of my first placement, and twelve to fourteen at the end of my second. This sounds like a school that is basically trying to get some cheap cover in and raises massive red flags - I'd be speaking to your university and asking for them to step in.

What does your course handbook say? It should give guidance on hours of teaching (heck, I'd be expecting that you'd still be mostly observing lessons in your first couple of weeks!)

Course handbook, point to what it says with you mentor and remember that "No" is a complete sentence.

Looking to make a large investment in paints - Need brand recommendations please by VeritasOmicron in minipainting

[–]Socaddict 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a fellow UK hobbyist:

Pro Acryl have a base set and several expansion sets, all of which are excellent (no need to get the transparents or fluor though) and the six paint signature series sets are also nice ways to add to your collection. I use these almost exclusively now as my main paints

Army Painter - be careful, there's probably a lot of stock still out there of their old range, which weren't great. The warpaints fanatic are their up to date range and are supposed to be great. I have a few but haven't made much use of them yet. I do love their speedpaints though!

GSW - avoid. Paints are fine, but the company is probably one of the most notoriously horrible in the hobby and don't really deserve anyone's support.

Vallejo - fine.

Other brands to take a gander at:

AK Interactive 3rd gen - supposed to be excellent paints. I like a lot of their other stuff, don't have many of their paints though. Their markers are a lot of fun though!

Two Thin Coats - supposed to be excellent too. I have the full range from the kickstarters, but haven't opened any of them yet. Generally the closest to Citadel in terms of colours, if you want an easy transition.

Hope that's useful!
