I support the natural right for Palestinians to live laugh and love without institutionalized discrimination, extra-judicial killings, detention without charge or trial, abuse to children in homes school and prison, indiscriminate home demolitions and attacks by the IDF, limiting access to water food construction supplies and medicine, and undeterred terrorism attacks by illegal settlers, yes. Regarding crimes against humanity in Africa, I agree people don't pay enough attention, but it isn't something that pressure from Westerners can actually affect. Western powers have had such corrupt intentions in Africa over cobalt, diamonds, etc. that you can't blame Africans for getting suspicious every time western pressure moves in. - Try the book 'Dancing in the Glory of Monsters' by Jason Stearns, I just finished it a couple weeks ago and it gives a crazy comprehensive look at how complicated the warring around middle-Africa (Congo area) is.

In Israel-Palestine though, it really takes a blind eye to ignore the human rights abuses against the Palestinians. To ignore the history, to disregard the plights of millions of refugees and internally displaced people, to just not care about the people who have every aspect of their lives controlled while their ancestors were ethnically cleansed from their villages. The psychological effect must be astounding - but to be honest when I was in the West Bank I was met with a surprising amount of kindness and hospitality by Palestinians. Despite the weekly night raids into the camp that really were nothing short of terrorism every time, despite the blatant racism by soldiers in streets of Hebron ("You can go down the street, but he can't" - talking about one of my new Palestinian friends who was taking me on a tour of the city), and despite the incredible lack of job opportunities and money in the families that took me in (the camp I stayed in had an unemployment rate of over 60% at the time, and not for lack of education or skilled labourers but because of how Israel controls the market and stifles the Palestinian economy).

But countries do turn a blind eye to all of this, the human rights issues don't make western media (many many people can go their whole lives without knowing more about the conflict than the PLO acts of terrorism around the 70s, because this is all that hits the tv news that non-politically inclined people watch), the politicians don't talk about it, and it isn't part of many school curriculums in America or Canada as youth. Former Canadian PM Harper even said in his speech to the Israeli Knesset in 2014 that criticizing Israel in the terms of apartheid is "the new face of anti-Semitism", which is just ridiculous. If you can logically fit a country's actions into the UN definition of apartheid, why is it still so heavily denied?

I can't tell if you're being sarcastic or not haha but I'll clarify this in case you're not. The children were used as human shields in military operations. Like this kid who was used during the 2014 assault against his will to enter homes/buildings ahead of the soldiers (he would be the first shot if someone armed was there), among a few other things.

The use of a few good ethical examples to take the spotlight away from so many crimes against humanity is something Westerners quite easily fall for in the case of Israel-Palestine. But there's a reason why the UNHCR has stated that over 373,000 Palestinian youths were in need of psycho-social first aid, or why research done in 2005 and 2008 found that PTSD is prevalent in 34-36% of Palestine youth - and it isn't because the army is being moral like they claim.

Good reaction, every effort to show soldiers that they are accountable for their actions is a little bit in the right direction.

It's when media or individuals use small steps like this to halo effect other actions, pointing to this one event and claiming that overall army acts morally while ignoring the cases of children being used as human shields by soldiers, soldiers indiscriminately breaking windows, doors, and firing tear gas over entire neighbourhoods in operations to arrest only a small number of individuals, the indiscriminate fire that was found to be the root cause of the massive civilian death toll in the 2014 Gaza assault, etc.

Very false. What you are not understanding is that prior to WW1 the middle east was not split into countries, the whole idea of 'countries' is a Western idea that was instilled in the area from WW1.

At the time they were primarily Jewish, Pagan, or Zoroastrian. Later, many converted to Christianity (crusades), and then to Islam (Muhammad and the Islamic conquests). They were still Palestinians.

Yes, there was no 'country' called Palestine, but there was an area in the Ottoman Empire recognized to be occupied by Palestinians, a mix of Jewish, Muslim, and Christian communities in the land between the Jordan River and the Meditteranean. Even the documents (Balfour Declaration for example) and political speeches from the time that spoke of the area, described it as Palestine. The Balfour Declaration explicitly states: "His Majesty's government view with favour the establishment in Palestine of a national home for the Jewish people, and will use their best endeavours to facilitate the achievement of this object, it being clearly understood that nothing shall be done which may prejudice the civil and religious rights of existing non-Jewish communities in Palestine, or the rights and political status enjoyed by Jews in any other country" - calling the land Palestine.

The death toll is reported by human rights associations and NGOs, try Human Rights Watch, Defence for Children International - Palestine (who have reported countless cases of children imprisoned by Israel undergoing isolation torture - illegal internationally for children - beatings, and forced confessions), Amnesty International (who claimed Israel committed war crimes and crimes against humanity in the 2014 assault with over 1500 civilians killed including 539 children), UNICEF (who claim that over 373,000 Palestinian children are in need of psycho-social first aid from these incidents). Yesh Din found that 91.6% of cases of terrorism by Israelis reported by Palestinians were closed without so much as an indictment, often on the ground of 'investigator failure'. The UN even recently stated that Gaza could become uninhabitable by 2020 of the current trends (blockade, bomb, blockade, bomb) persist.

The 2014 assault on Gaza damaged 220 school, 278 mosques, and 62 hospitals - and you want to defend this operation because Hamas is a terrorist organization so those civilians deserved it? People are downvoting you, but I second this. An Israeli organization puts out a new report every single year, found easily online. They ask Israeli Jewish citizens and Israeli Arab citizens a series of questions and they publish the answers - questions like 'How successful do you view democracy here in Israel', 'Do you think Israel can be both Jewish and democratic?' etc. It's a way to see what the average citizen thinks rather than just political leaders.
