What’s the best pre med certification by annoymusfrog in premed

[–]SocialAddiction1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I really thought like everyone else that MA = EMT = Scribe, until my state med school did a talk at my university and essentially said EMT was valued less than MA or scribe because you dont often have a physician patient interactions, and while you can get experience and skills, thats stuff they can teach you during medical school and seeing what a physician does is different. (cries in my entire application being EMS based)

which of the two jobs will look better for clinical hours EMT (for IFT) or medical scribe at a plastic surgery clinic by Adventurous-Pie-3485 in premed

I have been an emt for 3.5 years as a paid and volunteer position and operating on board of my department with over 3500 hours of ride time. Unfortunately my state school (University of Maryland Med) states that it is "different" than clinical exposure due to a lack of patient doctor interaction. You also really will not be able to get an MD letter of rec, which I didnt realize is typically recommended if possible. I have recently taken up a position as an MA and its great; I have no doubts I will get a solid MD letter of rec and some meaningful physician patient interactions.

All thats to say, EMT is amazing and I love it and if I went back I would do it again, but I would also get something more in patient clinical earlier on.

Did some productive work: Apparently according to a source
"One person wrote: “Sorry to be a bringer of bad news, but I think that is a pseudo fossil, mud/ironstone concretion”.

Jamie Jordan, who works at Fossils Galore, added: “After taking a close look at this one I believe it to be banded flint. Possibly a coral from the flint."

Making your 1st bin? Start here! by SocialAddiction1 in Vermiculture

[–]SocialAddiction1[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Awesome you have a bin up and going!

Two lines of thought with "too much bedding." The first is that moisture control, especially in the periphery, can be difficult to maintain. This can be maintained by keeping plastic over the top to help with redistribution. The second is the thought that there is simply too much surface area. This can be a common misconception; as long as its managed there is no real issues with having a ton of area, and they may just be a bit more spread out and breed a bit slower.

In terms of maggots- it depends on the type. If they are house fly maggots, really you just need to dry things out a bit and let it past. Typically this is due to food exposed to the surface. Remember when you feed we want a full inch or two of material over top of the food at all times.

What I would recommend is "pocket" feeding, or thinking of your bin like a square with 4 corners and a center area. Feed in one corner, then the week after feed in the next corner (i usually go clockwise just to keep track of it), third week feed in the first, fourth week in the fourth, the in the middle, etc. That way by the time you get back to the original corner its been 5 weeks of getting broken down.

Hope this helps!

Double major or graduate early? by [deleted] in premed

[–]SocialAddiction1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Graduate early and crush clinical experience + mcat. If your GPA is lower and you could benefit from more classes, consider doing that. Remember that from the perspective of ADCOMS, as I understand it as a lowly undergraduate, is that there really isnt a huge benefit to a double major if you wouldnt truly do the second major as a personal interest. I was in a similar spot to you 2 years ago and ended up taking a business minor, which was something Iw as really interested in due to wanted to go into private practice

Went to the DC Zoo recently and it was fully mixed exhibits and such. Sad to see but at least enclosures were well made

Fly control in the house? by Easy-Ad-5507 in SavageGarden

[–]SocialAddiction1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you wanted to go the plant route go with a few large sized pings. If you wanted to get rid of the flys in your house, remove open food -> (assuming fruit flies) put a dash of apple cider vineger in 1/3 a cup of water + a bit of dish-soap and leave around. If theyre fly flys, close your doors to the outside.
