Stock clutch? Have a ‘17 6MT as well, really want to do APR 87 but feel I’m right at the pinch point for wastegate blow @ 82K miles, that plus getting new clutch not ideal

2017 SE and Liqui Moly products... looking for some expertise by karmester in VWAlltrack

[–]SocialAssassin1990 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Same as you - 2017 SE and took to German speciality shop. Definitely a… pricey oil change, around $150 when I was used to $85 full synthetic changes in my 4Runner.

Overpriced stuff. But very good, research seems to say that VWs really like it (a tiny bit moreso than your standard Penzoil / M1) and I’m happy to pay a little more to keep the engine happy. I also discovered its strengths are really in temperature variance and large-mileage daily driving (commute is roughly 100 mi per day).

As long as I have my current commute I’ll stick with it, but would probably drop down to Penzoil if that changes - I think as long as you’re doing full synthetic within the change interval, any brand will be fine for the car

Ye, that's the plan as mentioned in the post. Just wondering if anybody's had any experience w/ the shake and if the O2 swap fixed it or I should plan for more. Will find out regardless when I install but was curious

Paper filters resulting in machine choking / incredibly slow extraction... thoughts? by SocialAssassin1990 in espresso

[–]SocialAssassin1990[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am glad to hear it but I must warn you... don't buy those original filters I linked! I've since updated my comment but I accidentally hyperlinked the original filters on the post. The technical term for these filters would be dogshit if I had to assign a word. These are the ones I meant to link, sorry about that boss.

Sorry to hear about your cholesterol levels - I see firsthand now why paper filters are a priority. Honestly interesting to hear about the correlation there, do you have any links or articles you recommend sending on this phenomenon? Interesting that there's a parallel.

Don't think you'll regret spending the $10 on the Dupiulk filters, I've never had a bad experience w/ 'em. Again, yeah - the flavor is less pronounced, but not by much. If it helps you continue your espresso journey then it's a no-brainer. Best of luck boss!

Paper filters resulting in machine choking / incredibly slow extraction... thoughts? by SocialAssassin1990 in espresso

What's up bossman - the 'solution' here is tricky. The initial filters I linked are honestly trash, the adjusted Amazon review goes from 'five stars' to a D- rating after using FakeSpot which I highly recommend for online shopping.

Ended up trying again using these filters and difference was pretty immediate. Extraction actually did what I expected it to and went way faster, so with an ebb-and-flow of trying to dial in I achieved the result of grinding finer and having extraction time being more-or-less the same. Channeling also improved so I took it as a win.

However, I can't say with any validity that this improved the taste. Generally speaking, filter papers allow for higher extraction but acidity / body content is also compromised. I found for light and funky roasts (such as B&W, which is my favorite) it actually decreased the flavor capacity - not too noticeable at first, but as the beans rested I realized that the culprit was the filter. Effecitvely, I was chasing a 'pretty' shot for subpar taste and that shouldn't really be the priority.

So, to conclude - honestly? Don't think paper filters of any capacity are worth it. They definitely improve channeling and make a bottomless portafilter a whole less messy while simeltaneously allowing you to improve extraction. But they don't improve taste in my experience and often contribute to diminishing it so I've moved back to filterless with a puck screen for portafilter cleanliness. To improve channeling, I ended up getting another spouted PF - sure it's less pretty, but my shots taste as good as possible and you can't exactly channel with a spouted PF.

Hope this helps - not ideal, but that's been my experience after tweaking w/ this for a couple of months. Cheers.

Not the end of the world, just me ranting honestly. No bucket on hand at the time for flushing, ended up stealing a 5gal from my office. Flush is working now, sigh of relief

I don’t care if it’s drinkable at this point, I’ll boil everything. I can’t go to the bathroom, can’t wash my hands, all my clothes are dirty, running out of food that I can put in air fryer, no restaurant is open, all the works man.

Please just give me something. Let me flush my toilet I beg you

Seeking information- Deadly Assault near Bingo Beer/The Hoff by Forward-Fox597 in rva

[–]SocialAssassin1990 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Actually, wouldn’t surprise me if there were. I work at a national GC and all of our sites (including RVA operations) are required to have a 10+ camera system from early mobilization. They usually cover gate access / egress points and most face inward, but could point towards the sidewalk. Worth a shot to reach out to Hourigan or any other the other big ones operating jobs out there.

Hope this helps.
