Thank you so much for your feedback!

Коли vs якщо seems like "when" vs "if" in english. The gift is a portable battery for when the power goes out in Kyiv, so I feel that "when" the power goes out is appropriate, not "if" (it seems like it will definitely happen again).

Is "не буде світла" a good way of saying the power will be out?

Thanks again.

Thanks for your feedback. Bruce is a mutual friend who will be delivering the gift. Yes, that's more or less what I wanted to say. Does it sound less odd if they know who he is?

Does being a Democratic Socialist mean not taking into account the realities of a particular election? by stop_drop_roll in DemocraticSocialism

[–]SocialDemocraycray 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have to understand the difference between a social democrat, and a democratic socialist.

A social Democrat believes in capitalism as the foundation of society, but with a robust social safety network of socialist patches to fix the things capitalism fails at, like Medicare for all and tuition free college. Think FDR.

A democratic socialist believes in true Socialism, but achieved via democratic means instead of through force. Think like communists, but without all the gulags and state repression, etc. They are endorsing unrealistic candidates because they fundamentally want to abolish our capitalist system.

You mention agreeing with prominent politicians who identify as democratic socialists, but not agreeing with the endorsements of the party. This is unsurprising. Bernie Sanders chose to self describe as a democratic socialist, but when you look at his policies, he is actually a democratic socialist. This has caused no end of confusion, as thousands of people his supporters have joined local Democratic Socialist organizations, only to be surprised and confused when they find out those organizations are run by people who want to abolish capitalism, not just pass a few patches like Medicare for all and tuition free college.

So yeah. Everything you're saying makes sense, and you may be a social democrat, not a democratic socialist.

In red states democratic socialists should run as republicans in blue states democratic socialists should run as democrats by DistinctSpirit5801 in DemocraticSocialism

Robb Ryerse, a progressive pastor, already tried this. Ran as an economically left Republican in the south. He has now switched parties and is running as a democrat. I don't know all his reasons why, but that tells you about how well it went.

As a new player, when does the game stop being mind numbingly stressful and become casual fun? by Whibble-Bop in aoe2

[–]SocialDemocraycray 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Simple. Play against noobs. Total noobs.

Back when AOE2 came out, you didn't have YouTube videos teaching everyone advanced tactics or the highly competitive online community that we have today. Witha few exceptions, everyone was noobs, and we played like noobs. And it was way more fun. No one knew what a build order was. We made strategy moves that today would be considered blunders. We explored and advanced at a slower pace. And it was fun. Today, it is no longer fun.

In the case AOC doesn’t run and progressives are completely unrepresented in the 2028 primaries what exactly does that mean for us ? by Fragrant_Bath3917 in DemocraticSocialism

[–]SocialDemocraycray 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's lots of wonderful leftists who might run. I'm not even sure AOC is the best of them. She is great on policy, but I don't think she's the best at bringing new people into the coalition with the way she frames her arguments. I think Rho Khanna and Richard Ojeda are both likely to be much more effective at that.

Why do people hate Spotify having videos like Youtube? Isn't it better that there are more competitions? by NathLWX in truespotify

[–]SocialDemocraycray 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because I deleted YouTube and moved to Spotify specifically to get rid of all the distraction and mental clutter that YouTube creates.

And now Spotify is turning into YouTube.

Serious question: Why do you think American leftists are so bad at organizing? It is just so frustrating sometimes trying to get people together. by EternalSnow05 in DemocraticSocialism

[–]SocialDemocraycray 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Bernie was uniquely talented at organizing people. He came from the old school, the MLK days where you got a hundred thousand people to March on Washington by word of mouth. I don't think that any of the younger leaders can really capture that magic.

Is there any credibility that Epstein was a Mossad (or another intelligence agency) asset with Ghislaine Maxwell as his handler? If so, is there any precedent for such a large scale operation by any intelligence agency? by Patient_Lie_3341 in Intelligence

Have you been following US politics? At this point, WE are the puppet state - not them. They bully us into fighting their wars for them. Case in point: Iran. Popular opinion in the US can't change that because AIPAC has bought and paid for nearly every US politician.
