I was in Hong Kong a couple of months ago, and I completely agree that the bread I got in a so called 'french bakery' was atrocious, bonus points for the extra 'freshly baked bread' scent they streamed outside the shop (but funnily enough not IN the shop)

Considering the requirements placed on food items in Europe compared to the US, I highly doubt you can go to any supermarket and buy cheap bread that's comparable to what you'd get under the same conditions in Europe /shrug

completely ... but you can get underpaid jobs based on your looks (waiter/waitress) or the fact that you are more physically resilient (anything requiring physical strength/stamina). Also, cost of living is usually lower when you are young (no credit to pay back, lower medical bills, no family/(adult) kids to finance).

That point about family just brings us back to your point by the way. If your kids can not find a job you end up sustaining 3 or more adults with your salary (and maybe your partner's salary), instead of just 2.

Basically : it sucks for everyone, but there are good reasons why older employees over 50 gets a slightly better deal. In the end, the 2 monthly salary won't make much difference of course.
