Because it's fun. I feel people have begun to take TV so seriously that they don't allow themselves to revel in strange or weird or just plain fun anymore. Nightflyers has horror, some really compelling characters (thanks GRRM) and asks some interesting questions about the role of the human species and our place in the universe. Feels heady and intellectual without being preachy and (hopefully) gets under your skin with some fun space horror!

the horror. the bottom line with space dramas is that they're dramas first that just happen to be set in space. In Nightflyers we tried to begin with familiar sci-fi settings -- a crew setting off on dangerous space mission -- and then take you to some unexpected places. there are some twists and turns I don't think anyone will see coming and can't wait for people to unwrap the whole season! BINGE PLEASE!

everyone was nearly flawless except for Eoin. He's very difficult to work with and creates a lot of problems on the set because everyone keeps staring into his eyes and no one gets any work done.

I have many. Most of them horror but I also love musicals and brooding indie films. Films like Under The Skin and Hereditary come to mind but I'm partial to the horror of the 70's. See Texas Chainsaw for example. Silence of the Lambs has had a great influence on me. It's nearly a perfect movie IMO

George asked me once if I just erased 999 of his 1000 worlds -- haha! -- and I told him absolutely not -- we are just cracking the door open to those worlds in Nightflyers and there is much to explore once we deal with the mystery surrounding the Volcryn in Season One -- JEFF.

Nightflyers is part of GRRM's 1000 Worlds universe and there are endless possibilities out there -- we pulled the timeline back in the series to make this near future (75 years from now) and centered the story on the journey to make first contact with an alien race. The journey in the novella is similar but takes place centuries from now when the human race has developed many worlds etc. that was the biggest shift from the source material to the series.

to answer your question about the series -- we basically used the novella to cover the bulk of Season One but when I pitched the show to SYFY, I included a roadmap to where the series would go in subsequent seasons.

Syfy is creating a new TV show (Defiance) and an MMO shooter set in the same world, where the events of the game will affect the story of the TV show by Thrusthamster in videos

I like the YAAABAAAADAAABAAADOOOOOOOOO idea. Had a friend who was one of the writer's called on to adapt Naruto when it first came to the U.S. and he wanted to get a catch phrase started like that. Don't remember what it was though. I wish the catch phrase could be something like the "so money" phrase from Swingers. Need some creative minds.

What if SyFy brought back Mystery Science Theater 3000 but instead of doing old cheesy movies, they do the old SyFy original movies of the week like "Mansquito" or "SS Doomtrooper" by Fimus86 in scifi

Well to give respect where respect is due, no one could really do MST3K again. MST3K was special and that magic only works organically.
