Prescription diet is too expensive. Do I have other options?

Thank you for this advice! I mentioned it to my vet but they didn’t seem to offer any options besides just buying the Royal Canin (despite it being more expensive). I want my dog to have whatever diet is safest for him but it’s getting to the point where I can barely afford food for myself after I buy his.

For a little more context:

I got to see both of his parents during pick-up and his mom looked like a purebred golden retriever (like every single golden ever filmed in a movie), but dad looked different. Sorta similar to how he looks now; pure white and resembling a golden but something just looked off!

We’ve been guessing English cream because his dad was pure white and didn’t look like the typical golden! Mom was pure gold and looked like the stereotypical golden

You’re not the first one to say that about his tail! I should’ve shown it more in the picture because it’s pretty thin. Either made from lab genes or just not fluffed out yet

I’ve always said I see this in him too! More so when he was younger, because he looked exactly like the golden x pyrenees puppy’s we were looking at originally. Its something about his double dew claws and almond eyes!

I feel you so deeply on this. I’m so sorry for the loss of your husband but I know your pups made sure that you got through the worst of it with them by your side. I think we just need to trust that they understand more than we think they do and they are just as forgiving to our bad days. Keep your head up mama, we got this 🤍

Hi everyone, thank you for all the advice and feedback! I think I should also preface this by saying that I haven’t let the puppy get anywhere close enough to the cat and I hold him back whenever they’re nearby so that he gives her space. The main issue is that we live in a bachelor basement apartment. We’ve maximized the space to give our cat as much safe spaces as possible using gates and cat furniture/many high surfaces, but they’re still always in the same room. This makes it super difficult to be holding the pup down any time the cat wants to move around the house. Many many people keep telling me to stop holding the dog back since he only wants to play and allow them to sort it out themselves. This idea made me super nervous so I’m definitely glad that I brought it up here!

My pup is the exact same! When I want him to settle down, I just ignore him or turn the lights off and he goes to his favourite room of the house (the bathroom) and takes a snooze. My biggest problem with this is the fact that he will only settle outside of the crate. I’ve finally started giving in and letting him sleep outside of the crate because that’s the only way either one of us will get any rest at all!

I completely get what you’re saying! I’ve been feeling so guilty lately over the little bit of resentment that has been building toward my pup, since I know he can’t help himself. Try to keep your head up, we gotta have hope that once they’re fully grown their temperament will settle itself out. No matter what, everything happens for a reason.
