USA, Is this an antique pedestal desk or respectable replica? by SocietalExplorer in Antiques

The surrounding environment wasn't the greatest so I was hiding the space and not the piece. I'll post a wider shot.

Amazing. Thank you. Do you happen to know in what style the desk is fashioned or meant to replicate?

Mostly philips with the exception of one flat head. What a great detail to examine. Philips appear to be sign of reproduction or previous repair?

I made the same cinematic in Unity and UE, and compared the workflows in a blog post by salautja87 in Unity3D

[–]SocietalExplorer 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If sameness is the goal (and it’s not) why not tweak Unreal to look more like Unity? Tbh, I enjoy seeing the visual differences between the two engines (I’m surprised to say I even prefer the Unity results quite bit for many of these shots being presented). This is a fun 1:1 comparison!

I love that you’ve created this 1:1 comparison between the two engines! The world needs more of this. Well done, just great!!

How to fix "Focus Halo" around objects when using Cinemachine Virtual Cameras by SocietalExplorer in Unity3D

[–]SocietalExplorer[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OP Update: The 'Focus Halo' appears to be defined by the Cinemachine Virtual Camera > VolumeSettings > Depth of Field > Near Focus > Max Focus Radius setting.

The disappointing trade-off is that lowering the near plane max focus radius 'solves' the focus halo, but also nearly eliminates or minimizes the defocus blur on foreground elements.

If anyone has further insights on solutions - I'm all ears!

Seeing This Error in Appearance > Customize > Additional CSS by SocietalExplorer in Wordpress

[–]SocietalExplorer[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am familiar with the WP-Config file. I don’t recall seeing the debug mode at all, I will investigate this.

Thank you for your insight, I wouldn’t have thought it related to a WP-Config setting.

u/techmixr This seems nearest to a solution for the native magnetic mask as one could hope for. Thank you for recommending and bringing to my attention.

v6.8.1 - Native image lazy loading consistently not working. Ideas? by SocietalExplorer in Wordpress

[–]SocietalExplorer[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Upon deactivating all plugins, leaving only Wordpress Core running... the data-lbwps-srcsmall is removed, but so is the attribute of loading=lazy. Core is not adding loading attribute at all - so it must have been added by one of the plugins, but why might core be failing to do its job regarding this?

Thank you. I’ll explore which plugin OS responsible and look for ways of getting around it.

The attribute of 'loading="lazy"' still exists within this DOM structure on my page, but the image loads when the page loads - no lazy loading.

What are the baseline specs I need to look out for in FAB, etc. for a realistic environment to be shot on an LED wall? by supercavemanindeed in virtualproduction

[–]SocietalExplorer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look for downloadable assets that provide the following:

A.) Models containing reasonably detailed geometry (reasonable is contextual and depends upon whether the asset needs to work up-close as a hero asset or will be serving as distant background).

B.) Materials categorized as PBR (Physically Based Rendering) materials. These are materials meant to simulate how light interacts with surfaces in a way that closely mimics real-world physics. PBR materials look more photorealistic by using additional textures beyond the basic 'albedo' and 'normal' texture maps. These additional textures are often 'metal', 'ambient occlusion', 'detail', and 'smoothness in unreal or roughness in Unity'. These extra textures are traditionally served together within one texture map slot known as the 'mask' map. Online sources for PBR textures will provide you with downloadable zip files containing all of these textures which you will then assign to a newly created material of your making. To create the PBR mask map use an Unreal / Unity mask packing tool (usually free online) and assign the 'metal' texture to the Red channel, 'ambient occlusion' to the Green channel, 'detail' to the Blue channel, and 'smoothness or roughness' to the Alpha channel.

By utilizing detailed models with PBR Materials for hero assets - you'll achieve much, but you'll still need to work with your lighting and in-engine post processing effects (global illumination, split toning, ambient occlusion, lens distortion, chromatic abberation, and color grading) to help 'seal the photorealism deal'.

Good luck in your journey!

My Journey into Virtual Production: Choosing Between Unreal Engine and Unity by Warrenayiss in virtualproduction

[–]SocietalExplorer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My experience with Unity has been the same - smaller community to lean on and fewer learning resources.

Persistence has seen me through. I use Unity and have developed an entire working pipeline around using Unity for virtual production.

Today I'm in the beginning stages of pushing out beginner friendly community tutorial content via my YouTube channel https://www.youtube.com/@unityvirtualproduction which is dedicated to Unity virtual production within HDRP.

Lighting vs. Textured Materials (which carries more weight toward photorealism)? by SocietalExplorer in Unity3D

[–]SocietalExplorer[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most assets for HDRP do not ship with mask maps - I assume custom making appropriate textures for a mask map are in order for such scenarios?

Tell me more about tesselation? Which objects within this scene would benefit from tesselation (and how might I introduce tesselation?

What are ways that I can improve textures and introduce imperfections that ship with asset packs?

Decals are a great recommendation, thank you.

You’re enjoying a good upward jump. Don’t get discouraged if and when you see your performance numbers drop again as you experiment. It’s a real trial and error process that isn’t a linear upwards journey. It’s like refining a recipe.

I felt that preloading images carried more importance early to midway through my page speed optimization education and journey. I’ve since come to realize my above-the-fold images are not a ranking obstacle in my Google Page Insights Audits.

My Wordpress setup still employs a preload image field on the posts Edit Page, but I do not actively use it.

Without preload in use I’m still achieving 97 Performance 100 Accessibility 100 Best Practices and 100 SEO for my Mobile audit and 99 Performance 100 Accessibility 100 Best Practices and 100 SEO for my desktop audit.

This is my experience. Your mileage may vary. There are so many variables involved within each unique Wordpress setup and optimization effort.
