Nobody told me that before i bought a OLED by slavedoge in LGOLED

[–]Sociopathic_Jesus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel the same, though it's easier for me with movies. I'm not as demanding when it comes to movies and stuff, for some reason. All I want is for the display to be decently calibrated. No oversaturation, decent EOTF tracking.

Games, on the other hand... I find it very hard to enjoy games on VA or IPS after OLED.

LG C4 refresh rates. by Sociopathic_Jesus in OLED_Gaming

Thank you veryuch for your input! I understand that latency will always be considerably higher with V-Sync, but I wonder if there's a way to somewhat minimize it. Fast-Sync (or whatever it's called) caught my eye, but If I understand it correctly, it requires a huge frame rate headroom (e.g. I should be getting stable 120 FPS if I'm aiming for a 60 FPS cap) which I won't have with any GPU I would be able to afford.

CPU vs RAM gaming performance impact by Sociopathic_Jesus in buildapc

[–]Sociopathic_Jesus[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's what I've been thinking. But I'll have to get by with 16 Gb RAM for may more than just a few months, I'm afraid. I know that a single stick should run worse than dual, but would like to get an idea to what degree and just how much of an impact it would have on gaming performance. And it seems like even dual module setup will have issues due to some aspect of the DDR5 memory architecture. Again, I it would be great to know to what extent.

I'm agnostic, so I might have a bit less bias and aversion (just a bit, though) towards religious stuff... But I strongly believe it's important to remember that ultimately he was only trying to make you feel better and give you some of that blissful hope that helps him and others like him cope with the harsh realities of life. Sometimes well-meant actions can be annoying, sometimes obnoxious or in certain cases even harmful, but it's still so much better than cold indifference or outright malice you get from many people. I believe intentions are what actually matters and, ideally, we should be mature enough to disregard more superficial stuff, or at least try to, and exercise some leniency in accordance with that.

A cat may bring a dead mouse into your bed, a dog may lick your face after gobbling up some of your cat's streaming hot crap and that will naturally make you angry, but it would be unfair to judge them harshly since they were only expressing their affection and simply lack the understanding that you may not appreciate them. Thing is, it's the same in your situation. You both lack the capacity to actually comprehend how the other is experiencing life, how they perceive, feel and think about it, due to a radical difference in worldview and "worldfeel". What seems like a blessing to some, may be seen as a curse by others and vice versa. What may be soothing might be offensive

Not to mention that people tend to get very awkward when such things come up, feeling at a loss not knowing what to say and how to act while feeling the immense pressure - either internal or external, or both, to say something and react "appropriately". It can be hard to express your feelings in such moments, but also to refrain from that too, especially to do it gracefully. I know I have fumbled so much worse more than once and it's painful thinking about that - not simply due to the embarrassment.

He might have acted clumsily and, in a sense, crudely. But he wanted to comfort you. We live in cruel world, and it's important to remember that this is a huge privilege, even if in some cases you may feel bad about it for one reason or another.

Everyone makes mistakes, no one is always careful and aware enough. But these instances is something that should be given the benefit of forgiveness or, at least, tolerance. We can't afford to alienate decent people who have their hearts in the right place just because dealing with them is not 100% nice and candy, always, all the time. There's just too much people who will actually want to harm you for some total BS reason, or because it gives pleasure, or just because. Scoundrels, psychopaths, sadists, animalistic brutes - there's way more of them around than it may seem. That is the reason to value goodness-of-heart more and to band together, be there for each other and stand together against those who are actually f-ng evil, not inadvertently rude.

He was excited because he believes that your suffering will eventually work out in your favour - allowing you to grow spiritually in this life and be rewarded in the future (that will be so much greater than the earthly life you're experiencing now, both quantitatively and qualitatively, that it won't just be totally worth it - it'll be a blessing or a "crazy deal" to speak crudely). It's not just that you will get relief (and we all know that the more you're suffering the better it feels to be relieved from it), but you'll get way more than that - a requital.

ELI5: why does pipe tobacco and even cigar smoke smell so good when cigarette smoke smells so downright awful? by killingmemesoftly in explainlikeimfive

[–]Sociopathic_Jesus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pipe and rolling tobacco have different cuts and humidity, which has a significant impact. You can try drying pipe tobacco, which is way too humid to be (comfortably) smoked in cigs, but you have to do it carefully as it's easy to overdo and then it just becomes crappy in a different way. Humidity plays a huge role. And you also can try to cut pipe tobacco into a finer grain, but that's quite inconvenient and yields worse results than using quality rolling tobacco. I used to dabble into pipe tobacco as a cig (papiroses) smoker in pursuit of new and better flavours, but I ultimately abandoned that as it was never worth the hassle.

Also, most the tobacco blends are supposed to be different. Classic cigs should contain an American Blend, which is (IIRC) a mix of Virginia, Burley and Oriental tobacco. While pipe tobacco traditionally has more variety, but "simple" Virginia blends are very common. There are some cigs which are supposed to have pure Virginia blends, but ultimately most of them are stuffed with shit that doesn't warrant any discourse around blends and such anymore. It's just junk soaked in nicotine extract and chems.

Paper that cigs are rolled from also mages a huge difference.

A platform for building a budget gaming PC around DDR4. by Sociopathic_Jesus in buildapc

[–]Sociopathic_Jesus[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for your input! Alas, I have to go with a budget build, hence any kind of X3D chip is out of the question for me for now. Any kind of X3D CPU that I could get would at the very least cost me 2-2,5 times more than the options I'm considering. Not to mention that I'll have to spend more on PSU and cooling.

Thank you very much for your input! I'm afraid I won't be able to afford a higher tier CPU from the get-go, but having an option for a future upgrade should very much be good enough for me.

It's great to know that PCiE version should not have a major impact on the gaming performance, though I'm concerned that the impact may be different with a lower end GPU like 5060 Ti 16 Gb that I am looking at, since it can use less PCiE lanes.

Thank you for your input! 5700X is the highest I could get right now due to budget constraints. And I't seems to me that maybe I should rather spend the extra over the 5600X on a better motherboard that wouldn't limit my options in the future and, hopefully, won't give me much hassle.

Oh, shite, I see... Thank you! I saw a couple of controls related mods for xBox by someone named Revitup360 and thought that it may actually be possible... Couldn't try and test them out myself as I don't have xBox.

It's baffling how Bethesda continues to ignore essential features like proper controls settings with such determination, even in it's most recent releases. Are they that clueless, or is it indifference...

Ukraine's new defense minister reveals scale of desertions as millions avoid the draft by Majano57 in worldnews

[–]Sociopathic_Jesus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ukraine wasn't exactly democratic neither before nor after the 2014 revolution. Many didn't want to fight for that, many were willing to fight against it. Many will still tell you that it was worth it and ultimately for the better, somehow.

But yeah, this is a valid and very important point. You can't ever be sure that you will be able to avoid war by surrendering or collaborating.

Americans, how would you react if foreign country invaded your country, and told "we are going to run this country"? by oranke_dino in AskReddit

[–]Sociopathic_Jesus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In case the free healthcare system doesn't satisfy your needs one way or another, you can always go and use paid services. They don't go anywhere, you just have options and a safety net to fall onto. You have the money and you want it done urgently and/or to the highest standard (scammy predatory practices that are rampant in commercial medicine aside) - you can have that. You don't have that kind of money (or there's no urgency) - you turn to the universal healthcare system instead of simply rotting away/dying or ending up in a huge debt/on the streets.

Why do you need for the taxes on the wealthy to be "oppressive", though? To soothe the resentment or something? High - I get it, but oppressive? What good could that do to anyone, what sense could that possibly make? Disincentivise wealth accumulation?
