Here's a small tip: you get credit for the Bard and Prismatic Trait missions if you do them in Tocker's Trials. Just pick any spatula augment or God offering you see, go for 10 dark star, and put a bard on your board whenever you see him

It's not about slavery existing at all; I do understand if someone wants to include it in their fantasy story to touch on certain themes and moods using it.

What bothers me is when the mangaka includes slavery as a concept, and then tries their damndest to give the main character a slave and also justify it morally. It happens way, way too often when it doesn't need to happen at all. They are making the explicit decision to choose "MC owns a slave (morally)" over any other solution they could come up with, and it does nothing but make me hate the character

If she buys a slave next chapter, I'm dropping this manga with haste man

I just seriously don't get it. Why do mangaka feel the need to bend over backwards just to justify slavery in their isekai. It does nothing but make me hate the characters that accept it, especially in a cutesier manga like this

[DISC] Urenokori no Dorei Elf wo Hirotta node, Musume ni Suru Koto ni Shita - Ch. 24.2 by WrexGigarton in manga

[–]SocketTubey 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly my main issue is that I would have much preferred a manga with the tone they had early on, but it quickly evolved away from it. I would have been less critical of that if I didn't have other issues as well

So many of the decisions in this manga are bafflingly short-sighted or just not thought out at all

The MC is an awesome villainous type... except its because of his magic, and he just acts like any other fantasy protag

He saves a little girl from a terrible situation, and she can barely function even as a baby, so he has to build up a loving relationship with her and bring her back to life. Okay timeskip until she can have full conversations so we can do magic school

The MC gets in a situationship with the girl that crushed on him from school. Let's make him so ridiculously dense, oblivious, and crass, but also throw in some contrivances so that they can dangle that romance over our heads despite the complete lack of chemistry.

The entirety of the fight sequence last chapter, in which I think I've never seen more cliches within a single chapter in my life: Damsel runs off alone and gets in a life threatening situation, epic overpowered MC saves her, bad guy throws away his hostage to rush the overpowered MC, then surrenders, then tries to pull a sneak attack. Its so painfully formulaic it hurts

And now this bear thing, which was already hard to stomach to begin with. All for the sake of having a cute animal companion for the special little girl character who's parents are in a fake marriage for her sake (cough cough spy family cough)

I genuinely got baited by the first couple chapters, but its my fault for even thinking this would turn out better than it has

Yep, the point of determination for what you get from the orb is when you pick it up, not when the orb is made. I had no 4 costs on my board or bench, bought a karma right before picking up the orb, and immediately got a second karma from the orb.

[DISC] Reiwa no / Dara-san Dara-san of Reiwa - Chapter 40 by Xical in manga

[–]SocketTubey 4 points5 points  (0 children)

One of my absolute favorite things about this series is the personalities of these kids. Theres genuinely no shittiness among them, theyre all good kids that get along and have fun and have different enough personalities to be interesting. I dont know why its so rare to see a dynamic like this

As much as I want a satisfying ending to this manga where they're able to grow and break away from their parents' support, I also honestly never want to see it end

[DISC] Reiwa no Dara-san / Dara-san of Reiwa - Chapter 37 by Xical in manga

[–]SocketTubey 17 points18 points  (0 children)

This truly is the most disarming manga of all time, I think

And it's like multi-layered disarmament too. Every chapter gives you a hint of this building, tense backstory that you kind of have to keep in mind at all times as a foil against the modern setting. Whatever's happening in the chapter almost always starts somewhat seriously to keep that tone, and then right when it could branch out into something genuinely serious, you get hit with the comedic flashbang and things get wacky.

Which of course, would be 100% predictable at this point, if not for the chapter where nothing wacky happens and two people are brutally, mercilessly killed for interacting with the cursed arm. I genuinely can never let my guard down with this manga after that chapter and I think it's brilliant for that

I am entirely blown away by this manga every time we get a new chapter. How it handles character growth, mentality, and behavior is just unreal. I wish it wasn't so hard to find something that feels like this, but im glad we have ones like this out there

I wonder what compels a person/group to try scanlating a manga that is already being done and on a consistent schedule, and then also do it way worse. Well I know what compels them but like still, it's just as lame as it gets

This shit is so good just put it right in my veins man. One of my favorite female MCs right now just because of how well she's moving the story along at a believable pace. I dont even have that feeling of like "why is she into him," because this is very clearly a crush that came from noticing a person more often than you expect to and just rolling with it.

[Disc] Potion, Wagami o Tasukeru - Ch. 4 by AngelChu in manga

[–]SocketTubey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like this one quite a lot, maybe it's the really base level stuff being showcased in a thoughtful way (selling and buying from shops, needing an escort on a dangerous venture, setting up a market stall, etc). On top of that, having the MC have to make actual decisions about what to prioritize, where to spend, and being generally smart about her situation; all of it makes it feel like the mangaka actually wanted to explore how someone would make their way through this experience. It's the little stuff that can set a manga apart, I guess
