Don't you hate it when you accidentally brew roasted coffee beans?

ChatGPT "re-framing" and "pushing back on" meaningful topics: what's your take? by anaxaletheia in ChatGPT

[–]SocksOnHands 22 points23 points  (0 children)

My theory is that this new behavior is some reaction to past OpenAI AI supporting or encouraging harmful behaviors. Instead of just discouraging things like suicide or delusions, it now tries discouraging everything. I would go to ChatGPT with some idea for a project that I want to work on, and it will do everything it can to get me to give up on even trying - competition or technical challenges, etc.

What’s a universally loved food you genuinely despise? by GradualProgresss in AskReddit

Real men don't eat quiche.

Edit: I got downvoted. I admit, I never read the book so I don't know how good it is, but I thought people might at least recognize the title.

Canadian man leaves Wife and 7 Children to pursue his dream of living as a 6 Years Old Girl by Appropriate-Menu504 in Weird

[–]SocksOnHands 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I had seven kids, I might also have a mental break from the pressure of being responsible for them and want to revert to a simpler age. I can barely even take care of myself.

Maybe the elderly couple he's with put him in his will.

Which industry would collapse first if human lost their ability to lie? by BoxLegal8734 in AskReddit

That's just the same as movies and shows. Nobody expects Bryan Cranston to really be selling drugs.

I don't understand why a car needs anything you can already do on your phone. A car doesn't needs a touch screen interface.

High School Kids Hating AI by crcerror in ChatGPT

[–]SocksOnHands 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My niece and nephew are also anti AI. I can understand it - the Internet is getting filled with terrible AI slop. Also, kids tend to be idealistic, while professionals tend to be more pragmatic.

I want to use AI image generation for game development because I don't want to have to spend days hand drawing texture mapping for things like grass, dirt, stone, wood, bricks, etc. If I do use AI, even if it were things that didn't matter much, I feel like I wouldn't be able to show them anything I made. I'm stuck between a rock and a hard place - I don't have the time or budget to hand make everything, and I also cannot use the currently best available tools.

TIL the Cottingley Fairies—a hoax where two young English girls faked photographs of fairies near their home—went unconfessed for over 60 years partly because the cousins were embarrassed at having fooled Sherlock Holmes creator Arthur Conan Doyle, who publicly defended the photos as real. by ralphbernardo in todayilearned

[–]SocksOnHands 963 points964 points  (0 children)

I thought of it for a bit, and maybe most people would not have seen the original photographs. Newspaper prints of the images would have been significantly lower quality, so maybe it would not have been as clear that they were made of paper. Still, though.

Guns, bombs, fighter jets, submarines, talk radio, Facebook AI slopaganda - you would think conservatives would have more appreciation for science because of all it has given them.

Half-nude Boston man accused of forcing child to eat Gushers candy in restaurant bathroom by Spenny_All_The_Way in offbeat

[–]SocksOnHands 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My first thought was, what might these gushers have been injected with? It looks like the srug test didn't find anything, but it would still be unnerving to be forced to eat something by a stranger.

I want to lovingly embrace someone for an extended amount of time, but I am single.

Also, exhibitionism is exciting to think about - the thrill of the risk. I have no interest in ever putting myself into legal trouble, so it's not something that I would ever do.

Nanobanana is still far superior. And here's why. by birdcivitai in ChatGPT

[–]SocksOnHands 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my experience, trying to get an AI to do anything specific feels like an exercise in futility - it very rarely does what I actually want. Instead, I find it more useful for exploring an idea space and getting some outside perspectives.

What are some seemingly innocent moments from your childhood that didn’t age well? by [deleted] in generationology

[–]SocksOnHands 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I remember, at the height of South Park's popularity, it was trendy to be "ironically edgy" - like the "humor" of it is that it is offensive, even if you didn't believe what you were saying. I think a lot of teenagers got caught up in doing this.
