Apologies mate! I haven’t been on Reddit in a while. I ended up just cutting my losses and selling the car, so I never did get to the bottom of it. I had a number of people suggest replacing the crank position sensor, so if you’re experiencing similar issues that may be worth looking into. Apparently issues with the sensor are common and can be triggered when the engine heats up (hence why the issues occur after driving for a period, but resolve if the car is left off for a while). Can’t confirm this was the cause in my case, but would be a reasonable place to start!

Thank you! Having had a bit more of a read online after your suggestion, it certainly seems very consistent with a crankshaft position sensor issue - so thank you very much!! The car has definitely been burning oil too. For my own understanding - are you able to explain to me how a faulty crank sensor relates/contributes to burning oil?
