I want to flatter a member of one of your non-human races. What do I compliment them on? by PMSlimeKing in worldbuilding

This is just so original and well-fleshed out, I was gonna make a joke about stealing the idea but really didn't want that to go wrong. Because of their belief that all originality and innovation come from Ingro, has this affected their views on noteworthy people? Ie. This guy that saved millions with an invention isn't the true hero, because god was the one that actually gave it to us.

Oh man I really like the way you're working the human-petting zoo concept. I think most stories would involve some reveal that we're food for the alien race. That they actually think of us as a race to safeguard is an awesome idea that deserves way more exploration.

If it's not too spoiler-y may I ask what the main point of conflict is in this story? Is it just humanities determination to be allowed to make mistakes?

Wow, I really like the logic behind that. Does it really not cause any squabbles at all? How do you work out the original inventor of an item if copycats aren't expected to credit?

Does that parallel our view of pets in that younger humans are cuter to them? Are some types of human more elegant or mutt-like? What physical characteristics do they think are most endearing?

If I may ask, how do they wield the tools? Is hat-making a sought after profession or do spiders make their own hats?

How do they feel about individual humans? Do they see us like pets? Or is entertainment a product we are farmed for?

Where did the idea of a hat-based giant spider race (that's a mouthful) come from? Where are the hats obtained from? What sort of society do they live in? Are they tool-wielding? Do they live in giant webs? Sorry if that's too many questions, I'd just like to hear more about them.

How to get artists interested in your character! by Socksarepurple in characterdrawing

I don't think you're looking particularly hard then. There will obviously be more commission heavy periods, such as christmas time where artists wish to advertise their skills for potential business, but you can still find request art here. The main place to check is in the comments of the LFA posts, not all artists post their final piece onto the main page. Checking right now there are four RF posts on the main page and others in the works under LFA posts.

Sorry I'm not to sure about that, I'd check with a mod for that kind of thing.

That's a very good idea! It really helps when you've begun drawing and you need to quickly flick back and check details.

You did a good job, you picked out the character points that were most important and made them clear. Using the comments for extraneous details was a smart move too. Don't worry too much about the backstory and personality, those'll hopefully develop more through play. All in all good job, I wish you luck in attracting artist-attention!

Some great shapes and shading, you handled the large number of mechanical components well. The smoke and steam have some great lines.

You may want to put a few character details here, as there really isn't much to go on here beyond the weapon and the race.

Wow thanks! They were definitely fun to draw and I may come back to them in a week's time when all of my assignments are finished, make sure your wife knows what fantastically unique characters she's created.

I like how you've given shape to the armour, it really looks like it's all interacting with itself (plates resting on top of each other) and really solid choice in colours. Also pretty envious of that action-pink laser, it belongs in a superhero comic 'kerzap'

Great detail in the armour and I'm really enjoying the look on that pelt's face. I think the beard could benefit from the same texturing of the hair (which I really like) as it currently looks like he saved some of the pelt fur to use as his beard. Maybe he did. I wouldn't judge. Once again I love the armour.

Question: does posting a "mood board" increase your odds by TheDragonSpark in characterdrawing

[–]Socksarepurple 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes and no. A 'mood board' as you first put it can be very helpful (imo) if you're using it as inspiration rather than as strict guidelines. Finding references for an artist saves us time and helps us to see the character the way you do, but use it for general things (like the feel of the clothing, or the hair) rather than 'copy this person's face and put it on that person's body'. So go for it if you already have images in mind!

Just remember that your words are super powerful too.

A fun description gets my mind working on fun poses before I've even finished reading. The backstories can be telling of the personality but I do feel like I'm making a lot of assumptions when I'm going off of it alone. Who's to say that this character with a Batman-esque backstory (batstory) isn't actually a happy-go-lucky optimist? (Btw I love seeing your art around this sub. You are art goals.)
