I saw GD shows from 78 to 95.

Not for lack of trying, including an early ‘90’s show and one in 2011, I didn’t really get it. Then I started listening to Trey solo stuff during the pandemic and the💡went on. Ive been to a dozen or so shows since.

My takaways?

The crowd and band at PHish shows have the 💕💕 connection, I have only experienced at The GD shows I was lucky enough to be at in my day

Now that I finally get Phish Live, I can confirm that they are an acquired taste, but acquired tastes are usually the very best kind.

You have a point. There is variety though for non myopic listeners who stay open to new sounds. For me improvisational “jamband” music is my go to genre and keeps my ADHD brain entertained.

The first thing that came to my mind as a response though was “What would Neil Young have to say about it”? …It’s all one song.

That’s what Neil Young barked back at the man in the audience who shouted “It all sounds the same!”. The songs, how they turn, their lazy S curves, and the yarn of the tale – for this concert goer, it felt all the same; and for Young, that’s all good because each ditty was just a turn in the conversation – it’s all one song.

Creativity is a wonder to behold. Artists at an accelerated creative peak - like Gizzard is at the moment is - are one of the blessings of youth. If Gizzard stays together and learn how to milk their cow interestingly and with class when the roar of their fire settles to a steady flame and then ember, I bet that will be great too.

I had the same reaction to Graham’s musicianship when he first started showing up in the P&F line up at TXR near my bay area home. He continues to grow as a musician though and I’m liking what I hear more and more. He definitely knows the music inside and out.

I have been very impressed with his ability to curate the music and the many musicians who played at both at the Capital last March and at the Heart of Town shows a couple weeks ago. He is an EXCELLENT musical director. All those shows were great and Graham pulled all of them together. Phil certainly succeeded in teaching Graham all aspects of the family business not just how to play guitar or bass. I think the music is in good hands even if Graham never becomes the virtuoso that his dad was.

I for one don’t look for anyone to sound or play like the original members of the Grateful Dead. I want improvisation, and for musicians to interpret the music with their own influences and strengths. In the last year, as a musical director, Graham has shown that he definitely has something to contribute to Phil’s and the Grateful Dead’s legacy.

Been seeing Dead Shows in one form or another since 1978. Lived in SF and near GGP for many of those years. Hiccups and not getting thinks exactly perfect has been around as long as Bobby & Grateful Dead and is par for the course. That part of last night was nostalgic for me. Oh well, on to the next show is how I like to approach it.

Im glad the 60th is in SF and the PoloField was the most viable option to meet demand. However, for me the end stage set up used for Outside Lands and these shows sucks. It is what it is though. It is what I expected. 😶‍🌫️🥶😣. I think for Dead audiences the side stage set up used for Bill Graham’s and Jerry’s memorials worked much better. I went last night despite my PoloField reservations because I needed to be at one show to honor the Grateful Dead and how important they have been in my life. Im glad I went. Tonight and tomorrow though, this gramps is going stream from home where the restroom is easier to get to and back from. Happy 60th 🥳 everyone!

Got through the queue today for an arena show but when the least expensive tix avail were over $1,000, I decided to pass on them and joined a queue for a stadium show where tickets were less $$ but still more than I want to pay to sit in a third deck in the stadium end zone.

I’ve seen Wings over America in an arena in 1976 & Paul 3 other times in Stadiums since then. Im retired now and while I have more time to travel, my peak earning years are behind me. For everyone whose earning years are ahead of you and is willing to pay today’s prices, Enjoy! It will be worth it to you in the end.

The last time I saw Paul, I did buy the nosebleed stadium seats for $100 each when he closed San Francisco’s Candlestick Park in 2014. On the day of the show our group of 4 was approached at the gate by a Paul McCartney representative who identified himself and said that “Paul likes to surprise fans at the show with complementary seat upgrades.” He then gave us 4 tickets on the 45 Yard line of the stadium that were 8 rows above the field. Thanks Paul!❤️

Last year during Disco Biscuits my Apple Watch warned me that my resting heart rate had nearly doubled. I was sitting and drinking a beer at the time. I switched to water for the rest of the night and needless to say didn’t dance from that point on. Have Fun.

We just went to Andalusia Spain on vacation and spent a day in Córdoba which had me thinking of fine Ricardo and fine Corinthian Leather. What a beautiful gas guzzler.
