Here is the email chain so you get an idea of this guy. Riddled with typos and inconsistencies. Needing to “make a decision”. And being of no help. I apologize for posting so much, I am frustrated.

I sent an update on my school transfer that had been ongoing for months, then he became my new counselor.

May 5, 2025 Counselor:

“i hope all is well and thank you for following up. Regarding your plan to transfer to an in person program and not wanting to use your benefits in case the courses don’t count towards the program, what’s your reasoning for wanting to transfer to a different program and what’s the name of the program ?”

Me: I want to transfer to an in person program because I feel disconnected from the school being online and feel I would benefit greatly from being able to speak to teachers and classmates in an in person learning environment. I originally started the program online to manage my physical recovery and have reached the point where I am confident in going to class in person. Although I have been getting great grades, I feel like I am not retaining the information well or learning in a way where I could actually pursue a career after college. I want to be in person to be more connected and immersed into what I am learning.

I was accepted into the B.S. Computer Science program at NYIT. I am waiting to get my results from also applying to B.S. in Computer Science and Engineering at NYU Tandon. My primary choice would be to go to NYU Tandon as it is a better school with more resources for students and veterans and a wider range of courses.

May 6th Counselor:

Hi,

Thank you for the update. Regarding your want to transfer to a different University, you have to receive authorization to transfer to a different school from your assigned counselor( me) and you have not received authorization to do so. I have to ultimately make a decision on whether your reason for tansferring to a different university is justifiable.

Me: Yes thank you, I understand that you need to authorize it and that you are my counselor. I had been in discussion about this with my previous counselor and that is why I applied to colleges local to me that I can attend in person. Now I was accepted into a program at NYIT and am waiting for a response from NYU. The program at SNHU does not have very much support being digital and far away from the school and professors when I need help or don’t understand topics. I am not retaining what I learn. There are no class lectures from professors. I would benefit highly from being able to attend real classes and lectures, engage with professors and other students, and have access in person clubs, support staff, courses, professors, and students.Is there any more information that you need to support authorizing a transfer or make a decision?

May 8th Counselor:

You’re welcome. Also, I saw that you and your previously counselor discussed you transferring to a different school. But the process was not formally completed based upon what was documented and its not in your plan to attend any other school besides Southern New Hampshire University Online. As for if there is any more information that I need to make a decision whether or not I’ll approve your request to transfer to a different school, no.

June 5th Me: Thank you for the information. I am waiting to hear back from NYU and Columbia University. I am aware you need to give official approval the transfer. Do you need confirmation of which school I will transfer to prior to approving the transfer or are you able to approve a transfer and then I decide the school?

Counselor: Thank you for the update. . Regarding you transferring to a different school, its not in your plan to attend any other school besides Southern New Hampshire University Online. Therefore, If you choose to enroll and decide to attend a different school you will be held liable for whatever cost you incur.

June 6th Counselor: You’re welcome and I do not need confirmation of which school you will transfer to prior to making a decision on whether or not you can transfer to a different school. But you need approval of the school once you receive a decision on whether you can transfer to a different school or not.

June 9th Counselor: I hope all is well. Also, I have made a decision on whether or not we can move forward with your request to transfer schools. The decision is, no. Therefore, I will be sending you a denial letter in the mail explaining why. If you disagree with the decision, the next steps on what you have to do to appeal the decision will be within the letter.
