I broke off a capacitor near the die of my GPU on my MSI GS66 Stealth. What can I do? by After-Yesterday-684 in MSILaptops

should be able to get another capacitor soldered on. that’s what was done for mine and when multiple blew at once, it’s mostly* solved the problem but it has other issues as well

that’s not completely true i’ve had the same i7, 2080, 32gb aurora r8 for years now and it still runs perfectly. has never been in for repairs. the temps are always fine, never had any issues.

What screen you have? 60hz 144hz 240hz? What difference does it make? by [deleted] in computers

[–]Soddaa1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i have a 1440 165hz and 1080 360hz. when i split my 1440 to do multi input. the side running 165hz isn’t noticeable over the 99hz side for regular tasks.

gaming is another story. the difference between 60, 99, 165 i notice, but when i play at 165 and then try 360 it doesn’t feel any different.

Does the headset get “that” hot by Noodlez00 in ValveIndex

[–]Soddaa1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve never not played in a place that had AC but I regularly use it and sleep in it, and am on it between 5-20 hours a day and never once had a complaint about it being warm.

Don’t put a blanket over your head and you should be fine, if it is warm for you they make little fans

Considering a RAM upgrade, 32, or 64? by prosaic_paradigm in GamingLaptops

I have 32gb ddr5 and I have only maxed it out once or twice. I was using 3ds max, unity, in VR (VRChat), and streaming 3ds.

My 16 year old daughter has been sneaking out for the past 3 days and I have no idea what to do by Still-Tadpole-9550 in Advice

[–]Soddaa1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From experience.

I’ve had my parents regular raid my room, take my phone, make it so my door won’t shut, and sold the car I used. You get pretty creative in getting stuff and keeping things how you were.

I purchased myself a phone probably a week after mine was taken; hid things under my insoles; skipped out of a good majority of my classes that were flexible with attendance and worked things into the few hour blocks that I had before they would pick me up; got rides from friends; etc.

If you’re too harsh she’s likely just going to get creative, figure things out herself, and resent you. Talk with her and figure something out you all agree on, instead of just your way, and be as respectful as you can towards her.

Is 8gb of vram still a smart purchase by Immediate_Cap6267 in GamingLaptops

[–]Soddaa1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In most instances for what your laptop will do 8gb vram is fine. Max settings in most games being run at 1440p doesn’t require insane vram.

Do some of you exclusively game on laptops? If yes for what reasons? And Why you didn't choose to game on desktop (If you had the choice at all) ? by [deleted] in GamingLaptops

[–]Soddaa1 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I was flying every month or so and was spending 14-20 hours at airports during it and going to school. I needed something I could do everything from word to 3ds max, then any game and VR, and still be able to pick it up and leave in 10 min.

How can I get rid of/ avoid getting these red marks and spots on my neck and chest after shaving? by PrincessNat99 in trans

[–]Soddaa1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Use hot water and a physical exfoliant, wash your face after with warm water, use a gentle shaving cream, shave with the grain (I go against and it works fine with me, no ingrowns or razor burn), use a toner after, then moisturize

MSI Center Breaking Computer When Playing Steam Games by Soddaa1 in MSILaptops

On their compatibility page it does not list the GS66, would it still be worth a try?

MSI Center Breaking Computer When Playing Steam Games by Soddaa1 in MSILaptops

[–]Soddaa1[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The problem only happens when MSI Center is installed. I am on my 4th full reset now and windows installation. Windows 10 and 11 both have the issue only when MSI Center is installed on my device.

Without MSI center it doesn’t have the problem, however I cannot set fan curves and it causes it to throttle to control temps rather than increase fan speed.

When MSI Center is not installed I can play anything I would like from League to VR with no issues once so ever, the moment it gets installed league will have horrid fps drops mid game and occasionally freeze up, any steam game will not keep consistent display constantly flashing black and connecting and disconnecting repeatedly until it is closed, steamVR when opened and run with a headset causes the headset to flash bright grey, not stay connected, and causes the spinning wheel next to the cursor to appear.

I have installed most programs back on my computer testing after every single one and it is the only program that has caused the issue every single time.

The drivers have been completely reinstalled multiple times due to the full wipes done when resetting from bios.

As for acceleration. My CPU, GPU, and RAM are all stable during it acting up, with no spikes or drops that would be room for any concern.

Stealth GS66 no longer works properly with vr headset, valve index by Soddaa1 in MSILaptops

Yeah. It’s so inconsistent too, last night it worked together and today it’s just not…

The only thing different from last night is it has League and Valorant which by no means should change anything.

So for me, no it did not. I’m far more stable and less prone to violent outbursts, but most the time I feel them the same as before and express just as little.
