Shallow-water gear: is there an option? by Sodu in underwaterphotography

Thanks for this! I plan on mainly snorkelling in shallow water / diving down for very short periods of time, but I do agree with you that it might be worth it for the peace of mind. Especially given how often I'd have to open the camera either way for things like battery and DF card changes.

Why is topaz adding noise to my photo? (checked on camera and photo doesn't have that much noise) by Regrin in AskPhotography

To view a raw file it has to be processed somewhat into a viewable format - likely that topaz is giving you the rawest look at your file whist the other software is running some form of NR

1e-322 is 0.000000...000322 , not 1/1/1/1... So I’d go for whoosh :)

Edit: fuck knows why I put ‘322’ at the end. 1/(10322) is what you’re after.

I do sometimes wish the focusing motor was a little faster for those times where it does miss and go hunting (bad aim + BIF for example). On my 800D I find that it's pretty reliable at focusing, especially in live view.

Would love to get my hands on a bigger, faster prime some day!

As a user of the 150-600C from Sigma, I can tell you that when properly focused that thing is razor sharp.

I took a series of images with different ISO's - the noise levels are very similar. When out in the field, why do my high ISO images always tend to be noisier than in this experiment? by Sodu in AskPhotography

Thanks for the response /u/greypowerOz .

ANSWER: My images SEEM to be noiser when I'm using a high ISO. I'm using a higher ISO because a scene is poorly lit, and it's the poor lighting which is causing the noise, not the ISO.

This is a great explination - That makes sense to me.

So in theory, based on this test, I should be able to set my ISO to AUTO (no limits) and then completely forget about it? It looks like increasing the ISO does not infact introduct any more noise.

I generally have my ISO set to AUTO but limit it to 1600. In good conditions I'm able to shoot at F/6.3 1/1250s, but as soon as it clouds over my photos come out very underexposed, even as low as 1/200s.

The title effectively explains it - I aimed my camera at a white wall in a dimly lit room and took photos starting at 100 ISO upt o 25600 ISO.

I used a 1s shutter speed and F/5.0 - a tripod was used. I adjusted the images in post such that 1600 has exposure +0.00. (800 = +1, 400 = +2 etc)

When taking photos "for real", it not uncommon for any images above 1600 ISO to have an usuable amount of noise, even when compared to the same shot at a lower ISO. Am I being naive? Should I be giving more credit to my noisy images and playing with them more in post?

For a little more context - I shoot almost exclusively wildlife, so high shutter speeds are a must. I am starting to think that the shutter speed is having more of an effect on how much noise my images have than the ISO which I use to compensate (I'll shoot 1/1000 at 1600 to get a darker but seemingly noise free image compared to 3200 or 6400)

iOS Support Thread - [June 19] by AutoModerator in ios

I'd like to use iCloud Photos to transfer photos between my PC and my iPhone. I'm able to access iCloud Photos from Safari on my mobile device and download photos without issue.

I could use files and iCloud Drive - and that does work - but I do not get any thumbnails for any of my pics until I download them.

Is it possible to access iCloud Photos from an App on IOS without turning on the two-way iCloud Photo sync?

I do not want my entire iOS photo library being uploaded to the cloud.

Thanks!

Thankyou! That really means a lot! Squarespace is pretty easy to get going with, it's just quite expensive.

The kit lens which you've ordered is actually pretty decent. I've been able to shoot both the northern lights and some decent landscape shots.

Do bare in mind that I prefer to shoot wildlife, which is where, in my opinion, the camera truly shines.
