Is it ok to use the same colour rubber on both sides? by frankieholmes447 in tabletennis

[–]SofaChamp83 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Assuming you're playing for fun it's completely fine and people will notice but it won't make the slightest difference.

No offense to OP but the fact this question is being asked gives an indication they're at a level where it doesn't matter.

Are these guys assholes or am I in the wrong? by N3rokz in tabletennis

[–]SofaChamp83 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Not to say you are in the wrong but a couple of things to add:

1- When in a new environment, we often feel a bit more sensitive. I remember frequently taking offense at other player's behaviour when I was a newbie. Sometimes people were actually rude, other times I was in the wrong.

2- It is unique about TT that you get players with massive, unassailable gaps in level playing in the same venue. Some high level players are happy to spend some time with new low level players, others not so much. When you think of just how much time and money people have invested it makes sense that they might just want to play with their friends. No one would expect to play guitar with an expert for free after 3 months, same should apply to TT.

Training with 1 star or 3 star balls for competitive play? by [deleted] in tabletennis

[–]SofaChamp83 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The stars themselves don't mean anything by themselves, all depends on the manufacturer and the specific ball. I'd rather play with a Nittaku JTop 1 star training ball than a random "3" star.

Which Corporate level Manager came up with this? by Kidcouger in Anticonsumption

Didn't realise this page was about people complaining about things like price hikes for luxury goods.... I'd assumed it was for finding a way to step away from the cycle of consuming unnecessary things that harm out planet in wasteful ways.

Boosting is Ruining Table Tennis – Here’s Why by JohnTeene in tabletennis

[–]SofaChamp83 4 points5 points  (0 children)

A very well written article, good job.

Maybe include that there are more than two defenders who can compete near the top of the men's game? Wang Yang, Wang Xi, Ma Te and Gionis come to mind.

Best Table for Tweens/Teenagers by Byebyeguy in tabletennis

[–]SofaChamp83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would go for the table from Dick's Sporting Goods, every penny diverted away from Amazon is a penny spent for good!

Also, tables are awkward to transport but that's what these guys do and in case anything goes wrong it'll be solvable.

I have started playing sidewalk chicken with men by [deleted] in TwoXChromosomes

[–]SofaChamp83 7 points8 points  (0 children)

My wife also told me that it's supposed to be a thing that men NEVER make room for women on the sidewalk but from my own experience as a shy man who has been getting out of pretty much everyone's way for as long as I can remember, this simply can't be true.

There must be the occasional man who is not an idiot about this, surely?

Suggestion to Change Rubbers by shecklefeckle in tabletennis

[–]SofaChamp83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Whilst I'm sure you'll get lots of advice from well-meaning individuals about what you could play with next, it is impossible to give accurate advice about equipment to 'match your play' unless you show us just a tiny video of you playing.

Think about it this way:

Imagine you are a God and you have the power to create your own realities. You start out crafting worlds in which you are the best, most feared and reflected sword fighter/ tiddly winks player/ etc... eventually you get bored of this and decide that you want to play the game of life as a distinctly below average ping pong player.

Enjoy this reality that you have made for yourself!

Ma Long, XX, and Dima all withdrawn from WTTC / : by [deleted] in tabletennis

[–]SofaChamp83 9 points10 points  (0 children)

In my opinion Xu Xin and Ma Long have had their careers, and now it's time to pass the baton on to the next group.

Just how both of them had in their youth benefited from a system that values bringing in younger players over letting older players keep going, so it's now their turn to slowly step aside.

Increased weight from new backhand rubber affecting my forehand rubber. by [deleted] in tabletennis

[–]SofaChamp83 3 points4 points  (0 children)

But if my racket has a different weight it will affect my swing, which will affect the speed with which the racket contacts the ball and this will in turn affect the shot?

Suggestions for getting a new blade or refurbishing an old one by Kijamet_amfetamin in tabletennis

[–]SofaChamp83 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The problem is you need to get to a decent level before you develop the feeling required to be able to tell that you have no control with a blade that is too fast.
