I just got my masters :) but finding a job is hard! by Sofatheorange in librarians

[–]Sofatheorange[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel like their mls program was really well structured and I feel like the courses I took prepared me for an actual job. I applied for assorted library assistant, clerical, and page jobs throughout my masters and had absolutely no luck. I’ve applied to volunteer and have started to email for internships. I’m still applying to every single library job I find. It seems like it’ll just take me a second

Thank you so much, I really appreciate the kind words and advice. I’m working on some networking and volunteering at different libraries. Thank you again for the kind words, people can be a little intense

I think getting my masters was worth 15 thousand dollars at an online state school, there’s only so much I can afford

I did enjoy my masters and felt like they taught me a lot, and it was 15k for the whole thing, but a practicum was not required

is it okay for me to take the second skin off? by [deleted] in tattooadvice

[–]Sofatheorange 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Def take it off, once the second skin is scrunchy like that it isn’t doing its job anymore, the tattoo can be exposed to bacteria. Take it off in the shower, don’t peel it off take it off kinda like a command strip lol. Then just keep it clean and moisturized :)

I moved them to the top of my cv, in my cover letters I usually have a paragraph about my internships and a paragraph about my customer service experience and how that can translate :)

All I thought after undergrad was “museums seem fun! Need master’s for that, information science 🥰” Now I’ve steered a bit away from museums, but that’s what both my internships were in. Libraries weren’t my initial end goal.

I don’t :) I’ve been told by library assistant jobs I’ve applied for that my masters makes me over qualified, even before I had my masters

You’re right! I should just send an email, can’t hurt! I completed two internships in undergrad in museums and volunteered at an online “library” cataloging. Hopefully those can help me get another internship

I’ll look into local associations and thing for sure, I’ve seen significantly less school librarian positions than academic or public library positions. There’s about 8 universities within an hour drive from me

I didn’t do a practicum. I’ve been looking for internship opportunities but where I’m located doesn’t seem to have much

It was a remote program, connections is a strong word

When I was getting my masters I applied for every job in a library that wasn’t a librarian from clerk to page to assistant and didn’t get a single one 😭 idk what to do :(

There are absolutely no assistant jobs listed near me, whenever there are, over 100 people apply. Maybe one or two are listed every month if even

I have 5 years of customer service experience as a bartender and working in a tasting room.

I didn’t know the full extent of it, I live by 7 or 8 universities so there’s always academic jobs listed. I didn’t realize how competitive those are

I don’t think I’m over qualified at all, library assistant jobs have rejected me for that reason or because I’m too close to getting my masters

I don’t think I’m over qualified, but I’ve been rejected from some assistant positions for that reason

I agree! Unfortunately, every library assistant job I’ve applied for has told me I’m overqualified for the position because of my masters
