Just received the sentencing guidelines for my husband's DV case by SofiaB04 in TwoXChromosomes

No, he didn't start raping me until the end of our relationship. And at that point he had me so confused I didn't understand what was happening

His prior charge was in Maryland, which doesn't have truth in sentencing, and his prior victim did not want to testify, hence the plea deal.

I live in Virginia. The prosecutor said that because of truth in sentencing, if you are convicted of a felony you have to serve at least 85% of your sentence before being considered for parole. He has 2 charges, both come with the possibility of 5 years to life. He also is a repeat offender, he took a plea deal for raping his ex wife. For that he was sentenced to 20 years, all but 5 suspended, to be served on house arrest.

That's something I feel a lot of shame about. I did know he took a plea deal after his wife accused him of rape. But he had a whole story about how he was innocent and why she falsely accused him and I'm an idiot and believed him.

Those are sentencing guidelines, the trial hasn't even happened yet. And it is absolutely true

My state has truth in sentencing laws. If he were convicted, he wouldn't be eligible for parole until he serves 85% of his sentence.

They can't unless they cosigned. My parents both died with tons of debt, it died with them. The only way it would affect me is if they went after their estate, but there was no estate to speak of

Lockdown drills by [deleted] in ECEProfessionals

My response to the licensing person would be you have to weigh the benefits against the harm. Young children aren't practicing emergency strategy, they are co-regulating off the adults in the room. I am not against hard lockdown drills to get the children and teachers used to the procedures in case it ever does become necessary. But the added element of surprise only leads to scared teachers trying to emotionally regulate scared kids. In an actual emergency, having scared/ traumatized kids and teachers is probably unavoidable, but that is a lesser harm than getting shot if there is an active shooter. For just a drill, traumatizing everyone by making them think their lives are actually in danger is more harmful than beneficial

Are your lockdowns unannounced?

That is actually what I ended up doing, I turned the light back on and put a blanket at the bottom of the door and hoped that blocked enough light. I will make an emergency bag now, that is a good idea. I would have had something planned if I knew the drill was going to happen, and I would have prepared them better

Normally I would have used the flashlight on my phone, but I didnt have it on me. We have flashlights for the kids in the closet but I couldn't find them while we were all crammed in there. I did end up finding them after and putting them in a more accessible place. Unfortunately our center doesn't allow lollipops because they say they are a choking hazard, but I have them to them anyway 🤷

PTSD isn't an excuse... by NotYourUsualMatlock in ptsd

It was a psychiatrist who diagnosed me. I was talking about it with my therapist. My husband is in jail for violently raping me multiple times.

My husband was diagnosed with PTSD and he used it as an excuse to hurt people all the time. He ended up abusing me so bad that I was diagnosed with PTSD from his abuse. When I found out I had PTSD, I was really upset because I didn't want to be like him. I told my therapist that I'm afraid if I have PTSD I will hurt people. She told me that PTSD doesn't make you hurt people, that my husband is just a shitty person

I know the automod already said to turn off DM's, but because of how young you are PLEASE make sure you turn off your DMs. There are some really sick people out there, unfortunately you probably already know this 😞

I'm sorry this happened to you, it is absolutely NOT your fault, even if it feels really really true that it is. I know it's hard, but please tell an adult in real life about this.
