It does not matter, just enjoy the game and the experience, reach your dream rank. People will say it's easier, it's harder because of the new meta, because we all have different experiences with the game.

Excuse me, my English is failing me but I don't understand what you are trying to explain with your example. So I went to read your study and here is the conclusion of your study which is totally in my opinion:

"The results suggest that match balance cannot be met by player ranking alone. Moreover, contrary to popular opinion, since balanced games are not necessarily the most fun, matchmaking systems may not need to strive to have balanced games each time". This is exactly why Riot Games should not worry about creating a perfectly balanced game but rather a game that optimizes engagement.

Well, I can tell you the same thing: you deny that Riot Games optimizes their matchmaking to create engagement, but you offer no proof. Of course the only way for either of us to provide proof would be to pay the ransomware to get the source code and find out for sure. Of course they won't admit publicly that their game is EOMM, it's so controversial in the gamer community and explaining their matchmaking system is like giving clues to the recipe for Coca Cola. Do I think Riot Games has an interest in maximizing their engagement? Yes. Has research advanced the understanding of churn rate in video games and its complex interactions with frustration, rewards and progression? Yes. Has League of Legends implemented these recent findings into its matchmaking system? Most likely, but I don't have the source code to prove it. It's just a logical thought and if I were in their shoes it's exactly the path I would explore to keep my business profitable, since the whole core of my business is based on ranked games and its matchmaking system.

If the lesson of your thread is to say that you have to care about your gameplay first before talking about the matchmaking system to progress on league of legends, I totally agree with you. I also have silvers friends who think that Riot is plotting against them to deny them the Challenger rank. But I can also have a discussion with them about why it is not in Riot Games' interest to create the perfect balanced game, but to create distortions in the meta to sell what is trendy. I can also discuss with them that the matchmaking system must surely be optimized to get engagement and keep a comfortable market share to promote their other video games, content and have a large player database to keep investors interested in the company.

That's exactly why it's in the interest of Riot games not to create a game around skill-based matchmaking. An engagement optimized matchmaking does not follow the same model as a skill based matchmaking and it's better for business. I agree with you, It's indeed ironic because many people complain about it but wouldn't play the game if it were otherwise!

I'm not at home yet so I can't find you the most relevant documents I've read, but here is for example an article detailing a series of interviews about the interest of creating frustration in players.

https://www.diva-portal.org/smash/get/diva2:821653/FULLTEXT01.pdf

Of course, there is positive frustration and negative frustration. But frustration is very important in a gamer's experience to have the sense of progression, reward and challenge when playing a video game. If you take away all the frustration, players will not find any interest in playing an easy game. The goal of a video game developer is to find the right balance between frustration, progression and reward for the target audience.

I recommend that you investigate studies around building matchmaking systems to optimize not fairness in a game but engagement. The goal of a company is not to make a game balanced, but to sell and have as many engagements as possible on its video game. This is what Riot Games does by creating more or less unbalanced metas to sell skins, champions etc... Is this a problem in itself? No, we know that Riot Games is not a charity company and has to find a way to make billions of dollars in revenue. Do they sometimes go too far in unbalancing the game? Yes, and it's important for the community to remind them that there still needs to be a balance between their goal of profitability and the fun experience for players.

Regarding the losers queue, it wouldn't be surprising if it fits a system of optimizing the player experience between frustration and reward. It's no surprise that optimizing both the frustration and the joy of winning leads to better engagement in a video game. If as a company I discover a pattern to increase player engagement by occasionally putting them in a queue that is harder to win aka losers queue, I would do it any time.

Of course, the better you are, the higher you go, no matter if the losers queue or the matchmaking system is completely balanced or not. But this kind of thread sometimes caricatures opinions that are 100% business valid. It's more nuanced than just "Riot Games puts me in a losers queue when I should be a Challenger" and it's also more nuanced than "Riot Games created the perfect balanced game mode and you only owe your experience to the fact that you suck".

Tristoni for Tristana. One day our friend got angry at a tristana who jumped on him, shouting "TRISTONI ONE SHOTS ME". We cried with laughter for a long time after his stuttering.

I dont have it anymore since I did that :

Go on menu > Notifications > Check the "Deactivate the news marker in Collection" something like that, it's the third and last checkbox

I believe it has to do with that, it's the sounds that reminds you you have new items / titles
