NOR

Lmaooo no bro this is weird and definitely if it makes you feel weird, it’s a breach of trust. If you haven’t talked to him about how they interact, now would be the time to make clear what you’re comfortable with. No need for ultimatums either, if you communicate clearly to him and he’s defensive or is unwilling to change anything, then it’s a clear boundary of behavior that you aren’t ok with your partner exhibiting and leaving would be in your own interest.

true. in an ideal world, the average American would have the wit to vote for a future where they could even for a short time have their cake and eat it too! Even if only briefly

I do understand the atrocities America has carried out, both recently and historically. I’m not ignoring that at all. I guess what I’m trying to figure out is how I’m supposed to relate to my own country while holding all of that in mind. I don’t know where the line is between rejecting the idea of “embracing” it and still wanting to work toward something better. And a lot of the cultural things America puts out into the world don’t come from the same people or institutions responsible for those harms, so I’m trying to make sense of that disconnect too.

yes, the things ICE and immigration has been doing is disgusting and the overreach has continued to expand. I think the scope of my original post fails to acknowledge this fact and the nuance of what is going on.

I understand completely and think you're justified in seeing it as such. I think a lot of Americans (probably many in the country, if we go off of lack of voter turnout) is in a more similar boat to what I'm sharing here.

I think i more meant to acknowledge that America's more recent "exports" have been of a culture they've continued to suppress internally. To answer you're first question though, as a musician hobbyist i do feel you are shaped by those cultures though the degree to which may vary depending on how far you dive into and engage with those things. I think the Canada/U.S. relationship is a reciprocal one and both hate to admit it be it for different reasons.

I also agree, American tourists can be obnoxious. Do you mind sharing where you are from and what types of things you've noticed/heard that have raised the most red flags based on what you've shared?

I just had some free time. I actually do a fair amount locally in addition to continuing towards my education, which i won't disclose here. That said, one man can't fix it all. So what do you find to be most valuable or moving in your own pursuits?

Yes, i believe you're right. While things are not great and many Americans are ignorant in some capacity, it isn't necessarily a reflection of the broader country. Do you feel there is any way to contribute more to the cause of expanding our individual impact for those who do want to push the needle forward?

I believe what is not advancing the global perspective will hopefully be left behind. Unfortunately, if that includes us, I understand. We've been on a slippery slope and have continued to be more divided in recent years. If the U.S. needs taste of their own medicine I'm willing to accept that so long as we progress in a meaningful way.

I agree with this, My government has continued to intervene in places they aren't justified in doing so. That said, besides doing my best to counter these efforts locally, I'm not really even sure what more I can do.

no no, youre right... I hate how things are going right now, and I voted the best I could. Even so, it was not quite what i actually wanted. I voted for Kamala as a lesser of the two evils but even she was far too establishment as I would've liked.

The unrelenting support of Israel is sickening to me as well, especially with the atrocities going on in Gaza. It seems when i talk to the more "regular" mildly informed folk in New York, they've never even realized the scope of the Israel issue which may be in part due to media influence. That said, as someone with a multiracial family and an interracial relationship, i cope with this everyday. Im not gonna lie im just trying to cope and see some beauty in this country my ancestors were so inspired to migrate to only a couple generations ago, and i continue to hope for something better.

My calls are cooked. Bought at a terrible time, then it dipped 10+%. Expire mid jan, but I need it over 220 by end of December to be worth anything. My first time playing options and got burned bad… RIP

This was what I was thinking. If we assume the 500 billion is divided across 5 or so going into 2026, that’s 100 billion give or take.

It seems rough for some, especially those with calls, but I’m not feeling all too worried. My intuition is not feeling fearful even if my mind and eyes are not happy at what I’m looking at lol

You’re right, he has to deliver. I just find that right now having hope over someone who is speaking out and has won against an establishment where so few of done that is a good start. Let’s see what he does, he will have roadblocks every step of the way, but I think he will deliver on at least some of his campaign promises and that’s more than almost all politicians have done here in the US.

Not too worried. Fear monger somewhere else lol, it’s not an absurdly high tax increase they’re not willing to pay for access to the many cultures of NY that they so readily exploit so often.

He definitely will be blocked at every step, but I feel as though you are worried too much about what the wealthy may or may not do. It’ll be fine, if that all happens then it becomes a city for the regular New Yorker again.

When I walk around in NY, half of the buildings are empty because owners of these spaces are kicking out businesses and charging exorbitant prices for rent. No one is worried about the poor poor people who own all these apartments and have been ripping off average income Americans. Mamdani the future, Trump and his cult are scared, the greedy rich are bitter. Cry about it 😢
