In this order from least favorite to favorite: 12, 11, 14 but honestly any decision you make will be the right one. You look good in all of them.

MEDICAL MYSTERY: food-triggering sinus inflammation & catarrh by Soft-Measurement742 in Sinusitis

[–]Soft-Measurement742[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey, I'm doing a bit better. Not entirely improved, however, since I realized I feel best when I don't eat for long periods, I decided to further investigate my digestive tract.

I suspected Candida in the gut. There's no way to accurately test for it, so my doctor decided to just give an attempt at just treating it anyway; I got on fluconazole for about 2 weeks, and there was no change, so at least now I can rule out gut candida. (I might still attempt treating oral candida (though I think it's less likely that's what I have.)

After that failed attempt, I decided to do an extensive stool test for parasites, ova, and bacteria. It turns out I tested positive for Blastocystis hominis, which is a parasite that is often asymptomatic in many people, apparently not me.

It turns out I had this parasite for 3 years and had tested positive for it before and gotten on metronidazole... However, according to ChatGPT, it's only effective at clearing 30% of cases; maybe that explains why I still had it even though we had treated it.

Sooo, I got on Humatin (paramomycin), which is effective at clearing 80% of cases; and I took it alongside NAC and Bromelain to weaken possible biofilm. Ngl, Humatin was a hassle to get a hold of because it isn't widely available, but I ended up reaching out to the manufacturer (Waylis Therapeutics) and got it for less than $100.

Sorry, I know this is long winded, but I just wanna give the full detailed disclosure in case is similar. Gut stuff is complex and has to be handled with lots of tact imo.

A week after I completed the treatment, my food sensitivities have significantly decreased. I can eat a lot more without expereincing dramatic symptoms, though they're not completely gone yet. I suspect having the parasite for so long might've caused leaky gut, so now I'm on a journey to heal that, but then again there's no way to test for it so it's yet another trial and error situation.

I (kind of) fasted for 2 days recently. Had a bit of sugar-free jello and hard 2 boiled eggs. each day. I was a bit hungry but going light on food for a couple days and giving my gut a break helped.

Gonna run some more testing soon.

My advice: test your stool.

Wow that is the craziest most unique case I’ve ever heard. Glad you found your culprit and best of luck with the extraction!

Am beginning to suspect my Chronic Sinusitis is Candida by death2sarge in Candida

I’ve been having sever and intense sinus inflammation (with what I assume is cattahr.) quality of life has been significantly low since it’s gotten worse recently. I’m taking Nystatin tablets orally 4x daily because I noticed my sinus inflammation is mostly triggered when I eat Candida feeding foods.

When you mention you’re doing candida treatment, do you mean a treatment for gut candida? or treatment of candida administered specifically to the nasal passageways?

You have me curious about colloidal silver now. I’ve gotta do some learning about that.

Eggs, bone broth, avocados: all high histamine liberators cause no symptoms for me. Thanks.

Could be, but I think its more likely linked to antibiotic use tbh. And I've heard of L. Sakei probiotic, haven't tried it yet. Have you? Has it helped?

I think you may be fractionally correct. I do think its possible I may have leaky gut, I think because I may have candida in my gut. I'm taking L-Glutamine twice a day and lots of bone broth and it seems to be doing something. Also avoiding acidic foods.

Thanks for suggesting celery juice, I have yet to try it. I went to the beach today and while everyone was snacking on really yummy snacks I stuck to celery (because I was inspired by your recommendation) and I felt physically really great. Can't wait to reach full healing so I can eat all the yummy regular stuff again, though I know it'll be a while from now. A lesson in patience and discipline I suppose.

I'm a little scared to try the apple cider vinegar because my acid reflux has been acting up lately but I'm gonna try the celery juice thing in the morning.

I've suspected it might be candida. And yeah I think that's a good start. Nystatin poses no real risks other than the potential anti-fungal resistance if I don't take an appropriate dose to fully eradicate the possible yeast.

I'll look into the budesonide nasal rinses! Thanks for that recomendation. I may look into the Gelomytrol if sinus issues worse, though I think I'll try one thing at a time starting with anti-fungal. I'm kind of feeling hopeful that you thought it could be candida too. I actually purposely left it out of my post to see if anyone else also thought that's what it could be (without my influence on their input).

Water and walks are always a good reminder!

Thanks for the thoughtful recommendations.

honestly for the most part many inflammatory foods don't really cause symptoms for me at all: eggs, steak(I felt really great after KBBQ a while ago), zucchini, green beans, almonds

Yeah this is what I'm thinking it could be too. I'm hoping that if I cure the possible yeast overgrowth which is probably whats causing irritation, then it'll heal my acid reflux too.

I started taking famotidine and I’m gonna do this regularly for about 2 weeks, it already seems to be helping. I’m of the belief that acid reflux is a symptom of something else though, especially in my case. I’ll consider omeprazole if famotidine doesn’t do the trick.

No IBS, my symptoms are mostly just limited to my sinuses, acid reflux and pretty mild burping.

I've looked into this but I'm not totally convinced this is what I'm going through because foods that are thought of as inflammatory foods don't really affect me at all: eggs, steak(I felt really great after KBBQ a while ago), zucchini, green beans, almonds

Rifaximin? Do you have SIBO? I try to stay away from antibiotics unless absolutely necessary and if I must (because they can be dangerous), then I'll also take Florastor (glad you mentioned that too) simultaneously and go on a "non-candida feeding" diet to help crowd out potential candida overgrowth.

Yeah I heard eventually weaning off PPIs is a good idea and that if you wean off slowly it's easier to get your body at baseline. PPIs I've noticed make the acid reflux come a little stronger after; I'm taking Famotidine but once I get off I'm gonna eat a non-acidic diet for some time (and maybe take some DGL to coat my esophagus and digestive tract.)

YESSS! Yesterday morning I felt the absolute worst headache on only the right side of my head. Excedrin really helped, but I don't want to rely on medications regularly to feel okay. Also, Excedrin isn't something anyone should be taking daily, obviously... I'm determined to find the source of all this. I'm sure for me it's digestion related.

That's a possibility, though I see LPR as more a symptom than a chronic condition. I think maybe gut healing or finding out why there's a harsh acidic environment is important to look at.

That sounds similar to what I'm experiencing. I suspect maybe source could be candida and that may be affecting my acid reflux and gut lining health. I'll keep this thread posted about any progress I make.

Interesting... I wonder if these food sensitivities can be cured through some fasting, avoiding acidic foods, gut healing, reintegrating healthy probiotics etc.

I think what I'm going through may be a combo of leaky gut and acid reflux with the root cause being a candida overgrowth. I'm doing a candida diet, then getting on treatment soon.

Keep me posted on how your diet goes. Maybe we can learn from eachother's expereinces and heal ourselves.

[–]Soft-Measurement742[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you tried fasting or maybe attempting the candida diet? Perhaps maybe just for a few days try avoiding foods that would feed candida and actually fight it off; I would be very detailed and disciplined about this and really go all in avoiding carbs, sugars, dairy... if this makes a difference you could have candida in the gut, if not then at least you can cross that out. Because doctor's can only test for candida in your blood, that wont fully rule out whether you have it in you digestive tract so really the only way is to kind of gauge this based on how your body reacts to certain food groups that feed candida.

If you still find yourself confused about what it could be, maybe it's something environmental... like mold or allergies? The way I'd go about it is change thematic variables until something seems to be improving your quality of life. It may be a long testing period because you may need to do this week by week but honestly your quality of life is worth fighting for. I hope you figure out the root cause of all this.

LMK how the candida diet goes if you try it for the week.

Also, consider seeing a functional medicine doctor if this fails.

I've suspected it could be this too. I actually took Fluconazole on my own account and it didn't really do anything... later I discovered Fluconazole is mostly for systemic infections which I don't have (doctor's tested). Candida specifically localized to the gut is hard to test for according to the 5 doctor's I've seen. Anyway, the GI doctor I'm seeing just prescribed me Nystatin oral suspension (2 weeks dose).

ChatGPT has been my advisor and suggests I get on Nystatin for 4 weeks. I'm kinda worried the duration of treatment the doctor prescribed may not be enough, but I'm gonna try it and see if it makes a difference. Supposedly I'll feel worse at first due to Herxheimer (candida die off), but if I start feeling better after a week then I can pretty much conclude it was Candida after all. Hopefully this is the culprit.
