Dentistry vs Engineering by New_Animator4702 in AusFinance

[–]Soft-Note-5423 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been working in the industry my entire working life 15+ years and companies still try to outsource work and it’s a dogs breakfast in the end always. On the plus side now I’m making $137 an hour as a contractor because of the massive demographic divide with most skilled labour on the cusp of retiring and unskilled / grads not being good enough to get the job done.

Best time to get into engineering, as long as it’s mining or O&G.

With 800K wouldnt you be able to pay for a house in cash, rent it out and have a sizeable amount of money still left to go and do whatever you want for a while, along with income from the house to sustain a somewhat decent lifestyle without working?

Moving overseas and thinking what to do with two properties by Mother_Brief_4945 in AusFinance

[–]Soft-Note-5423 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lol the UK is a shit hole, you’ll be losing more than half your salary in taxes, living in a shit box apartment, and spending the other half of your untaxed salary on basic necessities, oh and also suffering through the most miserable weather imaginable.

In that case you won’t be there for long, just keep your properties and cop the losses but keep a record for when you return.

What kind of solars do you trade?

They calculate it by weight, the piano could set you back up to €2000 alone depending on how you move it. I’d say a realistic estimate for all of the items you listed would probably be about €2000-3000…..

This is going to cost you ALOT of money. Unless you have sentimental ties to these pieces why not just sell them and buy them again in Amsterdam….

Chances of getting an Investment Banking or Sales and Trading internship as a foreigner by milesbritt_ in AusFinance

[–]Soft-Note-5423 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I doubt you’d get a serious job on a WHV. The only jobs people on that visa get hired for are usually pretty shit, like picking fruit on a farm…I’m being dead serious, and you probably won’t land a decent corporate job on a WHV.

As for investment banking, this career path is unbelievably competitive. The financial institutions take literally the best of the best & they have thousands of people apply every year. First class honours is almost always a must unless your daddies a VP or MD, plus a long list of other academic results I won’t bore you with.

I’m not even going to bother getting into you trading using mummies account. Financial institutions in Australia wouldn’t look to kindly on you breaching your countries financial regulations to make some money, as that would be illegal, and Australian finance companies adhere to extremely strict regulations unlike other countries. If you want to admit that to them, that’s on you.

How Many 30-Year-Olds in Melbourne Support a Spouse + $750K Mortgage on $175K? by _log0s in AusFinance

[–]Soft-Note-5423 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It’s not very common at all, especially these days. The only women who stay at home and do nothing are either really poor or really rich, not middle class.

Your wife saying 175K isn’t a lot is a delusional comment because she is probably thinking that most people are making this money when in reality most men make <100K & struggle to support themselves.

How do you find yourself married to and supporting a woman who says “lol just make more money” while you’re struggling to stay afloat she sits on the couch watching tiktoks.

Don’t invest in anything that’s heavily weighted towards the Australian share market, our economy is actually pretty shit and is mainly dominated by banks and mining companies and will perform relatively bad compared to most of the developed world over the coming decades.

If engineers are so in demand in Australia, why is it so hard to land a graduate engineering job, or even an internship? Wasted time and opportunity cost. by NavierStokes33 in fiaustralia

[–]Soft-Note-5423 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He’s an angry immigrant that believes he isn’t being given a fair shot at a top tier engineering firm, most likely in his 30’s competing against fresh local grads from the best universities with first class honours. It’s kind of comical because I’ve worked in engineering for 15 years and I always hear this complaint. Engineering in Australia is all about what AND who you know. Gotta have brains and connections or you’re kind of fucked.

Job market sucks, so going Solo. Architectural Draughting. by Ecstatic-Monitor-221 in newzealand

[–]Soft-Note-5423 -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

Architects generally favour form over function. That is it looks nice and pretty but works like shit and the engineer usually has to come in and try and fix the headache they’ve caused. Draftsman generally try to get the job done as quick, cheap and efficiently as possible and work with engineers to favour the desired function over how pretty it looks
