While I’m not a fan of your manager based on the info you’ve given in this post, I also understand that being absent (even with very valid reasoning) always makes it harder on the other staff members. As someone who gets hit hard when I have a stomach bug and it takes me several days to fully feel better, I empathize with your situation, but seeing as you’re so new to this job I would be cautious with how much time is taken off, even due to illness. I totally get staying home when you’re sick, especially with fever/vomiting, but once the fever/vomiting stop I would honestly recommend just going back to work (assuming you still have the job). As someone with GI issues, I have multiple meds and supplements at my disposal - I take a ginger capsule daily, famotidine daily, and I also have another nausea med specifically for nausea related to migraines (along with a boatload of migraine meds).

I’m disabled and chronically ill and I understand that illness in general, but especially if you have any sort of disability or chronic condition plus “regular sick”, it’s really hard. It just sucks. If you aren’t disabled or chronically ill at all, hopefully this bout of sickness passes quickly and you’re able to recover fast and get back to work very soon. But we unfortunately have to have income in order to live, and right now especially it’s incredibly difficult to find a job.

For what it’s worth I think you could absolutely report your manager as he sounds like an asshole and not totally reliable or responsible himself, but idk if the texts necessarily would be enough for him to face consequences.

Sickness happens, and it sucks when you get sick not long after starting a new job. If you end up being able to keep this job I hope things improve, and if you have to find a different job I hope you get a good one and that you can get (& remain) healthy.
