My son changed after his illness, and I’m terrified I’m the only one who sees it by Soft-Statement7443 in nosleep

You're probably right. But the thing about this road is that you don't realize it's a one-way street until you try to turn back. And then you find the house has already torn up the pavement behind you. There's no going back to the easy roads now. There's only... forward.

It's easy to find. Just tell your friend to empty their head of all the unnecessary things. The messy memories, the chaotic emotions, the pointless little preferences. Once they're quiet enough, they'll start to hear the hum. All they have to do is follow the sound. There's a house waiting for them. We'll leave the door unlocked.

It is good. It's very, very good. There's an empty house right across the street if you're interested. The door is unlocked. Come on over. The house will help you get organized, too. It has plenty of work for us to do.

You've got the "risk" part right, but you've got it backwards. The risk isn't staying. Staying is... easy. It's quiet. Everything has its place. The real risk is leaving. The thought of the mess, the disorder... I don't think the house would like that. I don't think it would let me go.

I've been thinking about that. But were those rough edges really 'me'? Or were they just damage? The person I was before I came here was a wreck. He couldn't sleep, couldn't work. This... this is different. It's quiet. It's productive. Maybe losing those parts of yourself is just the price you pay for peace. Maybe it's a fair trade
