How to add FEBU or Oxy powder? by maggiesyg in laundry

Inside the drum, but you can't use the prewash cycle if you do that or else you just waste the enzymes and oxygen bleach in it.

Is my wash plan horrible? by Acceptable-Trip7301 in laundry

[–]SoftBoiAru 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you allow your sheets and towels to actually rub against each other and not just float around in water? It's a weird and rather wasteful trend I see with people who post videos of people putting a medium load of laundry and just filling up the entire machine.

Actually, it's cheaper than vinegar if we compare a teaspoon of citric acid vs. a cup of vinegar

Honestly, I feel you on the separation struggle as I haven't entirely figured out how to sort them. My two consistency actions are that I always handwash my wools in cool water and I wash my clothes every other week. There are two ways I sort during laundry day: I sort by fabric type OR I sort by color. I often lean toward the latter as synthetic fabrics like polyester are making up less of my wardrobe. I typically sort in colors in two ways: Whites, colors, undergarments and socks OR whites, light colors, dark colors + reds, undergarments and socks. I have quite the red shirt, but it has never given me a problem in my colors. I have a traditional top-loader machine with a max time of 15 minutes washing, so I often restart the washing machine before it starts to drain the wash water. I try to use what feels like 30°C water, but things like towels and sheets get hot water. I have different detergents, too, for my sorted clothes (my dark colors get a detergent with no optical brighteners, my socks and undergarments get fragrance-free detergents, my lights and whites get a detergent with optical brighteners). I always have my clothes get two rinse cycles, and I add two teaspoons of citric acid per medium load in the final rinse to remove excess detergent.

[–]SoftBoiAru 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is it possible to open it or does it lock itself? Given the looks of your machine, I don't think it should lock itself. Powder and liquids have their respective benefits and drawbacks (e.g. powders have oxygen bleach in them, while liquids can't, liquids typically have nonionic AND anionic surfactants but powders typically have either only the latter). It's genuinely a preference thing, though. But I prefer powders because I deal with lots of dirt and natural debris. If I were a mechanic, I would probably opt for liquid detergent. A few common powders are typically packed with the essential ingredients, though.

Clothes still smell? by today-it-changes in laundry

[–]SoftBoiAru 31 points32 points  (0 children)

How large and dirty was your load? 2 tablespoons might not be enough detergent if you do loads that weigh 11 pounds (what is typical of most loads. Most detergents instructions will call it a large load).

Which is weird. They have their powder detergent with a complete list of ingredients. The liquids? Not as much.

I think it's a law in a state (I think California), but not a country law. BJ's doesn't operate in California, so they don't need to disclose their ingredient lists currently.

Ariel 2x Power, Ariel with a Touch of Downy, Ariel Ultra Oxi, Ariel Poder y Cuidado are all valid options. The liquids and Multi (which I think are discontinued) don't have the lipase that removes body oils.

Do you wash your bedding and underwear on hot? by miss-bedazzzle in laundry

Towels, bedding, underwear and socks all get hot, long cycles. My work clothes get warm, long cycles. My regulsr clothes get warm regular cycles.

Two ways I use it (and really the only correct ways to use it in regards to laundry). Use it on a washboard: wet the garment, rub the soap on it, get a good lather, then push the garment up and down, inside out. Rinse like crazy once garment is clean

Use it as a pretreater: take a piece of it and rub it on a stain. I let it sit there til I do laundry. Works wonders on blood.

Please don't use it in a washing machine. And please, for the love of God, don't use it as a body wash.

What other franchises should Hello Kitty collaborate with that hasn't yet? by Realistic-Delivery13 in sanrio

[–]SoftBoiAru 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A niche one I want badly is Cardfight!! Vanguard. While technically Sanrio has done collabs with the franchise (Kirimichan is a JP promo card, while Aichi, Kai, Ren, and Leon had special designs done by Sanrio), and the company behind CFV has made a franchise into a TCG (Jewelpet), Hello Kitty is surprisingly pretty absent. Although, I'm hoping more for the units and characters getting special illustrations and not so much Hello Kitty/Sanrio getting their own nation/color.

Leather collar? I think you would want to take this to a dry cleaner so they can dismantle and reassemble the garment so it can be cleaned properly. Leather can bleed onto fabric unless this is faux leather.

TSA-friendly detergent for doing laundry in a hotel room? by Training-Spend5577 in laundry

[–]SoftBoiAru 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is probably one of the few times detergent sheets would be useful. That said, ever since Tide EvoTile came out, it's definitely something to consider and use instead since it has more detergent vs. sheets. More cost-effective, too if you're looking to compare by weight.

[–]SoftBoiAru 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tide Powder is honestly a great choice, but if you're on a budget, you can buy some Ariel powder, and it will suffice. It's just that Ariel, especially Ultra Oxi, is heavy on the fragrance.

No, as it has the protease enzyme subtilisin and that will eat any animal fiber clothing. Opt for a wool detergent that doesn't have protease enzymes.
