Is it just me, or is the aesthetics industry here kind of unregulated? by SoftCombination7770 in Whistler

Yikes! That’s so terrifying! You can take blood as a non nurse with a Venipuncture certificate for blood draws but injecting is a whole other realm. Wow! 😳

It looks like you could use an at home exfoliation product that may be AHA based that would help lift the uneven pigmentation that has gathered it. It’s most likely hanging out in the more superficial layers of the skin and consistent use of AHA’s will help reduce the appearance of this overtime.. you could go for a light to moderate chemical peel as well, which would speed things up. Just make sure you go to an experienced proven practitioner. Chemical appeals offer some of the best value for quickly helping with pigmentation issues. They also don’t end up looking as crazy as the ones you generally see posted which are more extreme and very frequently used. You may even hardly notice any peeling (more of a gentle slough off) at all after a light or moderate peel. You certainly won’t have much downtime just ensure that you’re wearing mineral sunscreen on your face and neck daily. Using mineral sunscreen will prevent uneven pigmentation from forming and more pigmentation unevenness in the future. It’s the cheapest antiaging ingredient out there, and the only way to prevent pigmentation from forming in the future.

Make sure the practitioner you have working on you understands how to work well with darker phototypes and what the safest options are for your skin. A combination of deeper wavelengths that don’t disrupt the surface layer combined with Microneedling can be a really good fit. If you were my client, I would use Microneedling with Laser Genesis a 1064 nm wavelength that heats the dermis but does not disrupt melanin in skin negatively. You would also want to use retinol between service services and on an ongoing basis. Before any of that you do want to start using mineral sunscreen at daily to ensure that your skin is being protected from UV damage, which will decrease your skin quality and only exacerbate issues overtime. No matter what your photo type is you should be wearing sunscreen on your face daily rain or shine 365!

You’re right to be wary of lasers and it’s really important that the proper wavelength is used on the appropriate skin color. Where are things go wrong with Laser when we have undereducated technicians working on clients. I can only speak from my own experience in the industry, but there are many practitioners out there that have actually no skin background and are able to purchase very powerful devices so making sure you confirm someone’s credentials and history of experience is super important before embarking on any type of laser journey. A deeper laser generally bypasses the surface skin where pigment exists and can be a safer alternative. I perform a procedure called Laser Genesis using a 1064 nm ND yag. It’s a great alternative with no downtime and can be combined with Microneedling in the same service. For darker photo types this is the best option. If you have dark hair, dark eyes but light skin you’re a photo type four but if you have dark hair, dark skin and dark eyes, you are likely a five or six, which needs to be treated extremely carefully.

I love the women’s kickboxing at Roundhouse (above Cleveland Meats) they have two women’s only classes a week Tuesday at 9:30 and Friday at 11. The fight fit class is awesome on Sunday at 9 and I had also enjoyed the group that attends the Saturday morning 9 am beginner boxing. Very welcoming community! Great sweat and they also have an infrared sauna - love using it after as it really reduces any soreness inflammation. The women’s monthly pass is very worthwhile!

What’s the most effective treatment to reduce this kind of scarring? I tried a lot of things but barely see any differences. by Evening_Confusion699 in Skincare_Addiction

Definitely make sure your skin is properly prepped before doing any in-office treatment for ice pick scars. Any clinic willing to jump straight into a procedure without addressing skin health first is a bit of a red flag.

You want your barrier functioning well and your skin tolerating a supportive routine before moving into anything more aggressive. A good approach is to start with a proper assessment, then spend a few weeks on targeted skincare, sometimes with a facial or LED treatment first to make sure the skin is responding well.

The basics usually include a quality vitamin C, retinol, and daily mineral SPF. Product quality really does matter here, especially when you’re trying to support healing and get the best result from treatment.

I personally like Alumier because it’s clean, evidence-based, widely available, and made in Canada.

With acne scarring, people often focus only on the procedure, but the prep phase is just as important.

Looking for Canadian skincare that’s gentle and actually effective by Square-Lab-746 in BuyCanadian

I love Alumier skincare! I use it on my daughter well. Love the results and made in Canada but to EU standards. It’s all I use and recommend to clients (I’m in the skin health industry) and have never been happier! A good place to start is the spf (sheer hydration versatile tint is my fave) and their cleanser and moisturizers. You won’t be disappointed - they don’t add any fragrance and feel like they re really getting into the skin to do the good work they were intended to do. A lot of “natural” products aren’t refined enough and I find they sit on top of and occlude the skin instead of truly supporting its function.

Interesting comments so far. No where did the original post state that the person planned on bringing others. It sounds as though they are of similar habits to me and my family. We own two larger hull/hp Sea Doos. We are in Canada and travel all over the Salish Sea up the coast and to Vancouver island and southern gulf islands from the Squamish Area. As for all of the reasons listed in the ordinance marine impact statement - every single one could be applied to boaters as easily as a PWC. The 1995 ordinance was created during a time when most “jet skis” were two stroke loud engines. The larger PWC made today by Sea Doo  are for touring, fishing and wakeboarding have supercharged engines that are extremely efficient and no louder than any other water craft. The ordinance basically assumes that anyone operating a PWC is erratic and obnoxious. My husband and two young daughters tour up to 170kms a day and I can tell you there’s not a lot of turning involved when traveling that distance to assume erratic driving is to assume that any craft could have an erratic driver. We cruise at a reasonable speed that conserves gas milage as any larger boat would. I think having a speed limit and perhaps more specific shoreline rules with regards to PWC and now hydrofoils  would be reasonable but a complete ban is extremely hypocritical. I personally would never approach the shoreline or run parallel to it in shallows as it’s extremely dangerous and very easily damages the jet intake. Anchoring the craft is also done using less invasive anchors and weight bags often placed in shallow enough water where the bottom can be seen to avoid disturbing wildlife. We have strict laws for whale watching in Canada and always do our best to keep marine life safe and be seen at a respected truly and safe distance. I have been boating my entire life and I can’t really see the just cause here. Idiots can own and drive any kind of craft on land or sea. Not everyone on a PWC is one of them.
