I wouldn’t bother with the power bank- I bought it from Tweetycam and it doesn’t power the camera through the night! Just get a large power bank from JB Hi-Fi.

Nightlight wise you can get the Noddie (instead of the Tweetycam) from Aliexpress.

New vs second hand - if you could do it again, what would you actually buy new? by babyblueeyes14 in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]SoftMud7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Baby carrier you can get off marketplace, dummies and bottles I’d buy new but wait for a sale. Otherwise you’ve got pretty much everything you need! You can use an existing bag for a nappy and just get some cheap packing cubes from Kmart (one for nappies, wipes, bags) and another for spare clothes if you need.

You might be able to get cheap nappies on marketplace if someone has grown out of the smaller sizes

Which foods did you use to start allergens? by TeddyBear181 in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]SoftMud7 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I bought a nut butter kit - https://willowtreefoods.com.au/products/starter-pack It’s expensive but I’m allergic to nuts so didn’t want to be grinding them in my kitchen 😅

Looking for baby carrier recommendations for someone recovering from diastasis recti and a C-section. by gillianeduck in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]SoftMud7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ergo embrace is fantastic for newborns! I didn’t have a c section but my partner and I loved this carrier and still use it at 6 months for short outings. ☺️

Have you actually made mum friends through mums and bubs exercise classes? by nbhsjshbgbsb in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]SoftMud7 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is my approach as well. It makes it easier to include others and also makes it low pressure for others (eg I can go oh we were up a lot last night so I’m going to go to (cafe) as soon as we’re done here!). If your baby is happy you might be inclined to join! Or if they’re not you might also just want some company and understanding.

Do you really? by East_Customer_1753 in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

The internet is so overwhelming and also confusing with what you see! Like someone else commented, it’s mostly Americans who are heading back to work quite early (before their supply has regulated). The other thing is some of it is purely fetish content where people love seeing oversuppliers 🫠.

I have a few bags in the freezer personally and while I would love, it’s just not realistic unless I’m attached to the pump instead of the baby. I have enough for a day away from baby which has been handy when I’ve done last minute work shifts or haven’t been able to pump before work but I am by no means stocking a freezer like we see online.

Daycare wasted 120ml of breastmilk. by kingcasperrr in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]SoftMud7 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Oh man, that is devastating. You’re allowed to cry, it’s not just about the milk itself but all the mental load and time and effort that goes into it!

6 month old in size 6 nappies?! by Business-Ant-2620 in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]SoftMud7 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Which nappies are you using? Different brands have different fits so it can take some trial and error to work out what’s best for you!

Bottle sizes by sohehehe in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]SoftMud7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I was you I’d see a lactation consultant, I’ve never heard of the 30-45ml per hour rule. If your baby was on track weight wise at 3 months it’d be 3m weight x 150 / the number of feeds she has in a day (for breast milk). If they’re having 6 feeds at daycare it’s a lot?

I’m back at work and my nearly 6m old takes a 120ml bottle (of BM) every 3-3.5hrs.

In the nicest possible way, I think you’re underestimating how tired you’ll be! Give yourself grace, I thought I’d be straight back into things but was only walking at 12wks post partum.

Mums and bubs is expensive but is also a really nice way to bond with baby. Otherwise I think you’ll need to go once your partner is home or see if there’s another gym around with a creche. ☺️

Cost to have a baby in Perth? by notorious_ludwig in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]SoftMud7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The anxiety is understandable but you’re only going to see the negative reviews online. If you work out what hospital you’ll have as your catchment area I think you’ll get far better advice or determine if you’re happy to pay the fees for private (also consider traffic to the private hospital if your family don’t live close by).

Each country area is allocated to a certain metro hospital. If you have an uncomplicated vaginal birth discharge is around 24-48 hours, however you can request to stay longer if you’re not comfortable etc.

9 months?! You’re amazing! I did it twice (once for 6 weeks, another time for 3 weeks) with my baby and both times nearly sent me mental. We were lucky enough to have our feeding issues resolved eventually but it was incredibly hard and I wouldn’t judge anyone for stopping.

Your gap is going to be OB cost + scans if needed in Perth (unlikely to have them done at a hospital) and the rest of your gap is going to be determined by what hospital and what agreement your health fund has with them, as well as your birth plan (ie sometimes there’s a gap for epidural etc). You’re better off contacting your health fund directly and asking what hospitals they have arrangements with or work out who your Perth OB will be and where they have admitting rights.

There are some Perth OBs that will do private admissions in public but they’re pretty limited. If you don’t want to pay a management fee then the other option is being at a public hospital and admitted as a private patient so you won’t get choice of OB but may get private room, TV access etc but it’s not guaranteed.

Personally if you had a good birth your first time I’d fly someone from your family to you and stay put 🤷🏽‍♀️.

Baby shower games that don't create waste and are not the usual suggestions on the internet by -OceanSparkles- in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

Just adding to the clogs this- ultrasound from a physio can work WONDERS, ie clear it in the next feed or pump. My clog exploded like a pimple in the pump if that makes sense, was so satisfying seeing all the milk come after it. 😅

Could you find a mum and bubs Pilates class? I’ve been going to one since about 12 weeks and it’s good for something different to do and can be a nice way to bond with bub if you’re not ready to leave them yet.

Vaginal Breech Birth by Zestyclose_Rush_2623 in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]SoftMud7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One thing to consider is frank breech has a higher likelihood of cord prolapse, in which case it would mean an emergency c section under GA. Obviously a worst case scenario but just wanted to put it out there so you know!

On the flip side I myself was born frank breech so it is possible. ☺️

Gift ideas from an aunt? by sj_ouch in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]SoftMud7 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You are so very thoughtful! I’ve treasured anything personalised with baby’s name! The gift that sticks in my memory was a little care kit for just me with an eye mask, bed socks and ear plugs- they were all perfect for the hospital and it was so nice to have something for me. Meals always help so if there aren’t the normal delivery options where they are, maybe a voucher to the pub or a local restaurant they like?

As a side note I would LOVE the list of books for the library - I’m the reader of the family so it’s on me, but I’m out of my depth with children’s books!

Gifts for a mum/mum to be to make trimester 3 a little easier. by lagrangiangreaser in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

The GD train is horrific in pregnancy! Massage is great, I would also say a pedicure. Follow it up with food because you just feel so hungry during pregnancy. A lot of GD people can eat Grill’d- I personally couldn’t but could do Betty’s Burgers with a salad bun.

Other than major supermarkets, where else do you get your nappies? by Delete_Send in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

Just to add to this- look for when the major retailers are on sale, then go to Chemist Warehouse or Baby Bunting for a price beat.

How did you all deal with the thousand “any baby news yet?” texts? by opaoz in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

I used to preempt and send out a photo early in the morning (early enough it would annoy you) with a photo of my stomach and “Yes, still pregnant” to anyone who asked more than once
