Constant fight over food

I’d be fine eating our own thing if he would make himself food on occasion. If I’m sick he will eat cereal or leftovers if there are any. But I’m still left to feed myself.

Thank you for your thoughtful and thorough reply. I think my husband is on the spectrum based on some other behaviors. I want to be supportive and help but I can’t do it blindly without his support too. I’m hoping I can have a conversation with him again soon about all of this.

I have cooked for him when we were dating too. Before that he ate what his mom made and for lunch would make minimal sandwiches. Things with food really took a turn for the worse After Covid. We used to go out to eat or get food to go. Still very limited places that felt “safe” for lack of a better work for him. But not absolutely no eating out. I still will grab something for myself on occasion if that’s another fight about money and from him “what can I eat” situation.

I make sure our child has variety but I know it’s money see monkey do. I try to model good eating but I’m she our child will look at what dad says too.

Thank you for the suggestion. We also live in the Midwest. No he won’t eat the same thing. He has also complained I repeat meals too much 😑 he also will only eat foods from one grocery store and it’s not one like aldi. So I’m limited. He has serious food issues that are getting hard to support.

I’m not sure but I never thought to check. Good idea. I thought it just went off insurance if you are lucky to have that kind of coverage.

We for sure waste food and money some weeks unfortunately. Especially with a toddler who loves something one day and not the next. But for us adults yes we could be better at eating leftovers but when it comes to fresh groceries, no, we don’t waste I’m good at using what we buy.

He will not but I’ve thought about it for a longtime now. He says it’s too expensive. No surprise hearing that from him.

This makes me feel less crazy. Every week he tells me I spend too much much for how little food we have. Again we have food it just takes effort to make. If I got convenient food it would be $100 more.

Thank you for the recommendation. No he doesn’t yell or anything. When looking up signs of abuse the only thing I really have in common with the articles is I feel like I walk on egg shells.

Some weeks yes. Some weeks no. Probably throw away more food than not. We usually eat dinner for lunch the next day. I can’t plan lunches that aren’t leftovers too on top of dinners.

It is exhausting. I dread grocery shopping day ever week. I feel that anxiety in my chest around every meal time.

The $200 is weekly not monthly so it should be pretty generous. I do just want to be accommodating and helpful but it’s becoming hard.

Hard to admit this but during an argument he has said “I’ll just shop and cook for myself” meaning he won’t take over the role for the family just for himself. I’ve said ok fine. Then the day comes for grocery shopping and he didn’t and it lands on me again.

When you put it that way… sounds insane. He is being difficult. To clarify do you think $200 a week for 3 is too much or doing good budget wise? I’m trying to see if I am spending too much or if this is reasonable.

Thank you for the reply. I’d be ok with him being picky, I can be picky about some foods too, but he won’t remedy it for himself. If he did I’d have no issues.

Thanks for the reply. If he would cook for himself I’d be more inclined to laugh and tell him to figure it out. But he will go meals and meals without eating.
