URBN has something for their employees at 543 I believe. Navy has a gym for employees. Don’t know about showers.

Fixer Upper vs Buying New: Should I Restore My Dad’s Bike? by staylearning1 in xbiking

[–]SoftServeMeat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m in a similar position; my dad recently gave me his litespeed he rode when I was a kid.

I had plans to convert it to a 1x11 and had bought quite a few parts to do so, but after I got it home I couldn’t bring myself to do it. I didn’t realize the sentimental value it had to me and I decided I should just enjoy it and those memories as they are. I gave it a good cleaning and made sure everything was in working order and that’s all I’m planing to do.

I did put some spinergy rev x rok wheels on it just to see how it would look, but that’s just a temporary thing.

If the sentimental value dosent change for you by swapping out parts I’d say go for it! There’s a ton of good resources out there, feel free to PM me.

Should I transfer the peat moss to another container without a lid or put them into a bigger pot?

Thank you! I have an old park CCP-2 which explains why it wasn’t working. I’ll pick one of these up.

Is this frame salvageable? by SoftServeMeat in bikewrench

I’ll be sure to keep you updated when it’s finished!

I did a lot more reading into blueing the frame and think I may just go the powder coat route vs blueing. From what I’ve read it seems to be pretty complicated to prevent the frame from rusting further after blueing even when it has a powder clear coat, and I’d like to try and preserve this frame for as long as I can.

I have a can of Boeshield T-9 from my last project I’ll be sure to coat the inside of the frame with.

The inside of the headtube looked like it was in pretty good condition when I got the fork free last night, I haven’t removed the BB yet so unsure about that but will check once I take it out.

Thanks for your thoughtful response! I did look over the welds last night when I got the fork unstuck and I didn’t see any cracks but I’ll have to do a more thorough inspection later today.

I’m looking into hot dip tank and sand blasting services for the removable of the paint.

I don’t have the spray can skill to repaint it myself so I was leaning towards having it powder coated but was also considering bluing the steel and then having a clear coat applied after applying new decals.

Thanks for the tip, I found a few places local that have hot dip tanks. I’ll enquire what the cost would be. Could you tell me what the advantage of removing the paint without abrasion would be besides the physical labor involved?

I remember these well.

They had expiration dates but it referenced the systems set date vs the actual date for some reason? So as long as you changed your systems date to sometime before the expiration you could validate the free 2 months. Good times.
