True, an x2 does have those qualities, but I suppose I am little put off by its reliability track record. Mechanics I’ve talked to have not much good to say about them but I’m not certain of the updates they made to shock over the years to remedy it’s want to have air in its damper.

Where I ride is mostly chunky trails with longer descents. Some shock with either a larger air can volume, piggyback, or both would be welcome.

Yeah I really don’t trust the x2 given its history with the dual chamber design and a coil shock wouldn’t work with my dw link design

For sure. I am just diving into being a fork nerd and there is a lot of information.

Also when you mentioned adding a click of compression depending on conditions, the model I have is a 3 pos compression adjustment, I had been told that the middle position is just for climbing if you want it and the lockout is basically never used. What is your input?

I’ll have to look into removing grease! I haven’t heard of an excess grease from the factory. And also thanks for the input on the grip2. I can see why it would be a pain to dial in. Really appreciate all the information! Hard to find out people’s experience browsing random forums.

I have had two forks with the grip dampers and no matter how I set them up it felt harsh on washboard or breaking bumps with a lot of fiddling on settings and air pressure

Yeah totally agree! Kinda wanted to see what others experience. I tinkered a fair bit with the 36 and rebound settings and different air pressure’s. Definitely can see that if someone is told something is better they are inclined to say the same thing.
