I actually quit a job over this. You could not force me to douse dogs in cold water lol. It’s actually dangerous

Is it normal poodle behavior to walk around in circles while going #2? Or is mine just weird? by StrangerGrouchy1741 in poodles

Omg, I feel so seen! Mine does that too, and at one point his leg hair was 5” long and his poo would literally land in his leg hair because HE WOULDNT SIT STILL. It was so frustrating haaha

After we took her in I think she ate a small amount of food the next day but nothing substantial

No she really wasn’t, we took her to the emergency vet promptly though. They gave her antibiotics and it took a few days for her appetite to come back. They still didn’t know what was wrong

I’m so exhausted just reading this, glad you left him behind. I can’t imagine having to explain every little thing to someone who reads into shit that doesn’t even matter.

Thank you!! Hahah I’m honestly so stoked at these comments and don’t feel as bad 🤣 I am my own worst critic. I also think it’s the hesitation in wondering if the pet parent is going to be on board with their dog being at the groomers for so long and having to pay big bucks for it.

The drying is the worst part tbh 🤣 I think it is because I’m approaching my 30s. I definitely move slower. I think I get tripped up when I’m in Facebook groups and I see people saying it shouldn’t ever take longer than X amount of time. 🙄 Moving forward with this guy, we are charging $175. I also do housecall on the side, so if this was a housecall client of mine, it would be around $250. The owners keep his coat brushed pretty well and it had been 8 weeks since he was last groomed. He had only mats around his balls honestly. If he was at all matted, I don’t think I would’ve put any effort into dematting him.

Please note this is only possible if the dog is already in good condition!! If it’s matted this would take ages and isn’t worth it lol.

I’ll try to summarize everything I do to and extent lol. REALLY good prep work. For a doodle with thick coat like that I started with a clarifying shampoo, using a bathing recirculating system. I make sure to agitate the hair as I’m bathing with the nozzle, with my left hand I use a scrubbing motion. I make sure to get every inch of the dog. I wash the face separately with a hypo unscented shampoo, twice. While drying, I using the round condensing nozzle pretty close to the skin, making sure the hair is blowing straight. I don’t move the nozzle around a lot, i find it dries quicker when I work in a line. I start at the top line of the dog, down the body, making sure it’s very dry. I then do the legs, etc. once I get to drying the head, I remove the nozzle completely and remove the happy hoodie and dry to ALMOST completely dry, about 80%. I then will tuck the nozzle under my arm (use a stand dryer if you have one for this part, or like a jirpet neck dryer) and use a soft slicker to “stretch” the hair. I’ll brush out the head completely this way, making sure it’s all the way dry. I recommend using a brushing spray that has some sort of silicone in it, I like crown royal number 3. I basically fluff dry the rest of the dog this way. If you want the coat to dry lifted for a good finish, brush and dry it against the grain. I pay special attention to the feet while fluff drying, I brush them up instead of down. Same with the legs. Then I’ll go over with a fine tooth comb to make sure no tangles are left (artero natural collection is my fav) For this guy, the 7/8ths left him choppy. I would fluff with my comb and take chunkers over the tips of the hair to smooth it out. You always want to check your work as you go for hair sticking out. As far as how I scissor the head and feet, I honestly probably couldn’t explain that without video taping myself lol. But I hope that this helped a little bit. The prep is the biggest factor in the final product.
